Teen got life sentence for killing pimp who raped her at 13
Supreme Court to rule on constitutionality of life prison terms for crimes committed by children
The case of a teenage girl who got life in prison for killing the man who raped her at age 13 and pimped her out for three years is drawing renewed attention to an upcoming Supreme Court decision on life terms for underaged felons.
A feature piece at Alternet.org tells the story of Sara Kruzan, of Riverside, California, who met a "father figure" at age 11. By age 13, he had raped her; for the next three years, she worked 12-hour days as a prostitute for her abuser.
When Kruzan killed her tormentor at age 16, the judge declared her actions "well thought-out" and gave her life in prison without parole.
Read the story here.

Though this is horrible, I have to agree on the court in this one. If the girl killed him at the spot (out of self defence, with a knife. She was 13 after all), I would have seen the logics in letting her go. This took place 3 years later though. Though I understand her action, it does not justify murder. 3 years after you were raped....thats the moment you let the police do their job, not get your own revenge.
Dont get me wrong though. I dont support the pimp, nor do I support the life sentence given to her on this one. I just dont think it is complete BS. She should be punished severely.

I also agree with the court on this one, if she wanted to do something about it, she should have done it then, not 3 years later...
Killing is killing, just because shes a kid, doesn't mean she should get special treatment.

I don't agree with the courts decision at all on this one. Good for her for getting her just revenge, you guys have to understand the scope of time.
A bit of a far fetched example, but do you know how stressful a university exam is? And thats a few months of studying.
This girl was raped and abused for three years, three years. 1095 days, 26280 hours... It's just disgusting to think about. And you guys are questioning her motive because "OH she should have done it on the spot, not 3 years later" Well children are so impressionable she was probably wrought with emotions over her abuser, or she was too afraid. She was 13.
At most i'd say 2-5 years with huge psychological support for that girl.
My opinion.

So with that theory, I can go beat up and old teacher of mine I had in 5th grade that failed me for writing my test in red ink, correct? I just needed to gain the psychological support to do it and I have it now.
Two wrongs don't make a right. In this case, they make a life-sentence.
EDIT: ElderKingpin beat me to it...

How was she wrong?
And what did we take away from this?
I personally learned: Be a pimp and no one can fuck with you.

I personally do not see how anyone can say she deserves life. I think chanta45 said it quite well already; it was not like she spent three years being normal after the rape and planning her revenge, she spent three years being forced to work as a prostitute. The system clearly failed this girl as it did nothing to protect her, as according to the article she was working for another pimp when she killed him. This is where it gets slightly tricky; she says her new pimp threatened to kill her if she didn't kill her former pimp. The main problem being, of course, how she ended up working for another; it is difficult to say whether it was out of choice or she was forced, as she had been before.
Nonetheless, that nobody did anything for those three years points to her being let down by the system, and being forced to find a way out herself.

As far as I can tell, she only comitted one wrong of her own free will.
Also, I notice that I've used the word "pimp" more times in the last few minutes than I have all year.
