What do you think of tattoos and body-piercing?

Just wondering. So what do you think? And do you have any and why did you get them.

I don't really have any particularly strong thoughts about piercings... they can look pretty good if they're done right, but there's a point when it could be considered... too far. My friend recently got himself an... um... Prince Albert, and *that* is too far (for me). Strictly speaking he wasn't supposed to have sex up to 6 months after it, but 2 days later that went out of the window :p

As for tattoos, I do quite like the arty designs, ones that have some significance to the person who has it; though I am not too fond of those huge pieces that cover huge tracts of skin. I also don't get why people choose to have tattoos of famous people on themselves, they always looked strange to me... but then again, it's entirely up to the person themselves.

I'd quite like a tattoo myself at some point, though I'd have to be pretty damn sure it's a design I want, with some significance to it. Nothing cheap and cliché basically.

When it comes to tattoos and piercings I just think of what it would look like when you're old. (when you're wrinkly and whatnot) Yeah, that speaks for itself.

I can't stand gauges. I'm okay with some tattoos (though I wouldn't want to get one due to all the problems that come with them), as long as it's not excessive. Piercings -- same thing, but no tongue/nose/eye/lip piercings.

My thoughts exactly.
Whenever i think about tatoos and piercings i have to imagine a 70 years old grandma on the beach in swimsuit with tatoos all over her wrinkled body and i have to hold myself back from throwing up.

I don't mind what other people have or do with their own bodies, but I have to say that over 9/10 of all piercings and tattoos look like s***

Well, some tattoo looks awesome and is a great piece of artwork. But I wouldn't want one.
Well, Just Imagine Grandpa / Grandma with hell a lot of tattoos and piercing.

Not a fan of tattoos (when your skin starts turning for the worse, you'll see why). There is only one exception to this in my book: if the tattoo is the emblem of the branch of the military that you were in, then it is perfectly alright and you should have the ability to do whatever you damn well please (but please don't break any laws).

Piercings- on the whole not a fan.

Good: On the ears. The standard piercing is good (formal occasions), and I don't mind a piercing on the upper part of the ear as long as one does not put rings in it. Upper ear for me should remain a simple stud if said person wants to get a piercing there.
Bad: Lips, belly buttons (sorry TH!), more than two on either ear, nose (the one stud on one side can be cute, otherwise bad).

^^ These are my views, don't mean to offend anyone :) .

It should be noted that both piercings and tattoos can be removed/heal. When left unoccupied for a period of time, piercings will naturally close. Removing tattoos however requires laser surgery that burns the pigment out of your skin. In case it isn't already clear, this hurts quite a bit.

Depends on the tattoo and the piercing. Prince Albert would be unbelievably painful and I do not see the point in it. Ears, belly buttons, and such I find alright. Snakebites, that stupid fucking Monroe piercing and such I dislike.

I would like to get a tattoo, but the only way I get one is when I know for sure that I want it and that I have enough money saved up that it won't take all of my savings. I hate when girls have that star behind their ear, it most likely means nothing to them and it can't be to show off since it's behind your ear. Stuff like that is a waste imo

I don't really get the argument that tattoos look bad when you're old. It's not as if most people turn out to be hunks when they get olds anyway :p

@Zakyath Typically when you get older, your skin starts having more impurities in it (more wrinkles, etc.) which affects the visual appearance of tattoos.

I don't think you follow. Typically when you get older, you're not especially hawt without tattoos either.

Its no arguement which is objective, not even remotely.
Its not about what it will look like when i am old, its more of the general thought of old people with tatoos that somehow dont go very well with me.
Its not like i would be pointing at old people with tatoos and tell them how much better they would look without the tatoos.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
