An Illinois teen with Asperger’s syndrome allegedly declined to press charges against the heartless bullies who beat him up for being different — but he did ask them to learn about what it’s like to have autism.
Gavin Joseph suffered a mild concussion, a bruised esophagus and a fractured nose when a group of teenagers attacked him last month to “teach him a lesson” about being “weird” and “creepy,” his mom, Cortnie Stone, wrote on Facebook.
Stone posted photos of Gavin’s heavily bruised face after the cruel beat down.
But Gavin chose not to get police involved in the matter, his mom wrote on Facebook. Instead, he asked that his attackers take some time to understand Asperger’s.
“He did not press charges, but requested that their community service be disability related, that they write a paper on Asperger's, and that they watch a 20 min video statement he taped while their families were present so they could see the damage they did and hear the event from his perspective,” she wrote. Her posting didn't clarify why the youths were doing community service if they hadn't been charged.
