City workers had a narrow escape yesterday when a giant plate glass window fell 17 storeys, shattering on the street below.
The 15ft high pane just missed office workers enjoying an early lunch and a group of people standing at a bus stop on Threadneedle Street in the heart of London's financial district.
The road was closed off by police following the accident as surveyors from the City of London Corporation examined the scene.
The 125 Old Broad Street office block, which is billed on its website as 'a better place to work,' was completed just four months ago in an £80m refurbishment of the former Stock Exchange Tower.
