The puss caterpillars are highly venomous, scientists say, with the fuzzy creatures’ bristles causing mild irritation, vomiting and drops in blood pressure, among other ails, when they break off on people’s hands.

Keep away from the caterpillars!

That's the message from scientists in Florida — who say the fluffy critters are more dangerous than they first appear.

Researchers say puss caterpillars — found living in elm, oak and sycamore trees across the Sunshine State around this time of year — may look harmless, but they’re actually covered in venomous bristles.
