Polish lawmakers are literally changing the face of a nation, banning junk food in schools in an effort to reduce the increasing rates of child obesity. Starting next school year, children won’t find chips, soda or burgers anywhere near their schools.

Polish MPs took concrete steps in amending the law on food safety and nutrition on Thursday, with 426 voting in favor in the 460-seat lower house of parliament to impose a ban on junk food.

Introduced by the PSL Polish Peasants' Party, the ban aims to “prevent obesity and pre-obesity in children and teenagers” a government statement said.

Under the new measures to be administered from the start of the next new school year by the health ministry, only foodstuffs approved in a detailed list can be offered to children on school grounds nationwide.

So Polish youths say goodbye to potato chips, soda, burgers and candy, and say hello to a new beginning of healthy food consumption. Foods not released for sale in the schools will also not be advertised on campus or close to its vicinity. Those in charge of schools, are to hold consultation with the parents who will participate in drawing up a list of foodstuffs authorized for sale and consumption on school premises.

Polish Peasant Party. I love that.
No wonder the Nazis had it so easy to invade that country if its run by peasants.

Damn, that is worse than Michelle Obama's lunch program - or is it? :)

Michelle Obama is pretty awful. I'm not sure if I dislike her or regular Obama more.

What does that have to do with Poland banning junk food? I'm just out of the loop here.

Michelle Obama is the presidents wife and she has made initiatives in the school nutrition of public assistance to schools and has forced a diet menu on all schools that accept funds from the govt. There are pics on the Internetz that have less than a Lunchables and these ridiculous lunches. Same thing as the Polish government - just only the poor schools have to get it in the US. Texas is lucky as we have lots of money for schools as they are paid by property taxes. Not too many of us have to have our kids eating Michelle Obamas menu.

That'll keep the kids raring to get to school. The problem is, she isn't even a public official - she's just wants to be Sheezus. So now kids get 'healthy' food (it's really not - as evident by the fact that there is probably pasteurized milk and cheap bread, probably made with some cheap bologna or something, and apples and vegetables likely coated in pesticides that weren't adequately washed, which are not good for you to begin with really, let alone when it's processed like I can guarantee this is), but in that they are still going to be lacking the vast majority of the nutrients and will gain almost no usable energy in comparison to the amount that they need. The government's intervention in food has never been beneficial for society - it's just about profiteering. Carbs are pretty definitively bad for you in most cases - and yet you're looking at a government that encourages you eat more carbs than any other food source.

That acutally looks pretty good :) That is the kind of stuff I eat minus the milk - replace with protein shake, prefer a banana and I would leave out the bread and jelly and just dip those veggies in peanut butter. Add a yogart to that and a couple of protein shakes and that is my breakfast and lunch.

If they used some level of quality ingredients I would have less of an issue, but under no circumstances is bread or milk 'healthy'. These programs are poisoning your children every day with low quality food, most of which isn't even healthy despite their claims. Even celery has potential health complications, primarily from allergies and the fiber content, and most of the nutrition isn't absorbed by your body anyway, and typically will be negative caloric anyway - not something good for children. Not that calorie counts are that big of a deal, but digesting celery removes energy that children need. My issue isn't that this is exactly unhealthy, but the changes in their food will make little to no difference - this is not healthier. Remove the milk, remove the bread, and remove the processed meats, cheeses, and GMO/pesticide laden vegetables. Then the bitch can call it healthy - until then, this is the same poison that slowly kills us all, only children don't choose it.
