War3TFT: Fatal Error (Crash at startup)

I had installed Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and it worked well. Then I installed Warcraft III:The Frozen Throne. But the game would not start. Instead I get a fatal error which says:

This application has encountered a critical error:
FATAL ERROR!
Program: c:\program files\warcraft iii\war3.exe
Exception: 0xC0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION) at 001B:00422695
The instruction at '0x00422695' referenced memory at '0x00000100'.
The memory could not be 'read'.
Press OK to terminate the application.

Please help. Now I play Reign of Chaos. The irony is Reign of Chaos works while Frozen Throne does not! The same problem is encountered in my older computer system.

System Specs:
OS: Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2)
RAM: 512 MB
Hard Disk: 80 GB
DirectX Version: 9.0c
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3000+
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GS
Sound: (onboard) Realtek AC97 Audio

Lately I did a bit of research.
I deleted the folder 'Redist' and lo! The game started (ofcourse, without sound)! I went into campaign mode and selected the sentinels campaign. The video starring Illidan was seen and then the game crashed and gave a fatal error again, this time referencing another memory location. The same happens on clicking the credits button and also on entering LAN mode and then clicking on cancel. (My Frozen Throne version is 1.07)
Strange! :banghead: :nuts:

actually, if you cant play on bnet and u get fatal error every time it opens, its probably because of maphack, the notorious most wide-known public maphack has finally been banned on custom maps, not all have but this one has, thus leaving you with a fatal error every time you try getting on bnet, or joining a game and what-not.

If this isnt thew case and you are trying to play offline, its PROBABLY because of what he said, screwing with stuff you shouldnt be, only reason i can think of you doing this to delete 'redist' is because you are trying to run a no-cd crack for the frozen throne, and you messed something up.

Very Simple Solution- Change ur RAM
It's RAM Problem, some bad sectors r farm in Memory

First you need to find what type of RAM is suitable to your motherboard. So you'll need to find out what motherboard you have, then what your motherboard will support.

Once you find what your motherboard will support, it's just a matter of picking company/brand you want to go with.

Similar error.

The question here is ... why would this error happen only in warcraft if my memory was faulty? All other programs / games on my PC work ok. I also bought new ram and found out that I was wasting money.

List of stuff I tried out:
- reinstall warcraft
- crack (got original, but someone mentioned it could work, it DIDN'T)
- new motherboard, sound, gfx drivers (screwed my windows installation beyond repair)
- reinstall system
- changing ram

Quite funny all other games work perfetly?

Problem occurs not in the menu, but ingame. I want to play DotA-Allstars and nothing else - it won't work offcourse... I get this error randomly after 0-30 minutes into game. A few times I managed to play whole games through without crasing. Passing -swtnl option decreased crashing a bit - but I cannot be sure this helped (really very random). Funnily enough some maps crash less, some more. Even the official campaign crashed after 5 minutes so it is NOT "custom triggers" or dota bugs. For example, I can play 50% burbenog TD games without crashing in first 45 minutes.

I was crazy enough to buy the game ...

And very intresting fact - on my laptop it WORKS. No errors. And windows so screwed it hurts. (ok it crashes once in 2 weeks). I found out that war3 ft will crash on both of my athlon rigs (on is at my grandma's - my old rig). Funny eh? Though it crashes less on that one.

Any ideas - what should I try to make it work? Or any hacker around to help me debug the program and make fix?

well this sometimes happens if u have video codecs..
codecs somehow interrupts the working of warcraft.
btw u need like divx or soemthing

lol im not really sure what i'm talking about, not an expert
hope this brings u closer to your answer

I really doubt codecs could be at fault since it crashes ingame not when playing movies. Movies play well.

I remember having version 1.06 a while ago and it was working... but there are a few differences to consider - i swaped procesor, added ram, changed disks, OS (2k->xp) and many more since that time.

Yea i have the same problems original campaigns work fine, some downloaded will get to the loading screem then display the memory error and others will not even load (i double click on the mad, the board goes up... then comes back again)

Only problem is, i can't download the new version as the school it's have blocked all exe files from being downloaded (also zip, rar, mp3, but not 7z yet)
so i'm stuck on 1.07
