Who needs money when you got free resources :D

But yeah... If I wanted to make something epic, I would make something that had no royalties and didn't tie me into a big company (referring to how Blizzard "owns" my ideas and crap that I make with Galaxy Editor).

They didn't even do that for DotA.

but now they are probably regretting not doing it for dota i.e. dota is now it's own seperate game, instead of something that they could have profited off of with an investment

The reason they didn't do it with DotA is because even if they did give them money, they'd have setup an insane royalty that the DotA team probably wouldn't go for. They've "fixed" that problem with the new ToS.

Apparently Blizzard recently signed-off on the mod and is allowing it's publication, albeit with a few changes (World of Starcraft sounds too much like World of Warcraft for Blizzard's liking). I've heard that the creator recently got a job offering with Riot Games because of the mod, which is a rather nice turnout.

Can't wait to play it.

MIZ, I shall explain.

First of all this isn't blizzard. this is Activision. There is a difference- Blizzard is a company that makes few but quallity games. Activision spams games. The reason why this pissed activision is because they are affraid of a new dota- it is a phenomenom- a small mod, with MILLIONS of fans, one of the biggest COMPETITIVE games. And they have NO CONTROL. You have told me that you haven't played SCII. I, as a player with close to a 1,000 league games played (and a couple of hundret custom games) I can tell you that the SCII melee is the finest RTS game I have ever played. The mixure between a city builder, micro and macro is just amazing. ( BlooDCounT <- SCII fanboy) Only the old Command and Conquer can be compared to SCII (because you have brutal battle systems there, the SCII is a bit too common)

My point is, too much work and resourses have been put into this game so that would be the leading competitive cyber sport in the world, so that some modders can abuse the ideas from BLIZZARD's WOW and shake the throne of SCII.

Or the shortest version-> Blizz doesn't want to split the SCII gamers, not until the final expansion has come out.

Warcraft 3 involved more skill and thinking in my opinion, Starcraft 2 is simplistic and doesn't compare well.

Ah, I remember playing those maps we old ones call Bounds and those maps called [del]Dirty[/del] Tank Defense :3 Those were the days. I once spent like 72 hours with very little of anything else but SC:BW ^_^ Can you say uber-hardcore-nerd? Lol. No more of that for me :p

I guess that if the creator got a job offering and takes it... we won't have any World of Starcraft (or w/e the name is right now) to toy with. :D

@ The 3 others above me

Hmmm, not wanting to break your party there guys, but this is not what's the topic about. :p

Let's keep it on this mod.

Hmm, how do I change my signature?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
  • Ghan Ghan:
Heard Houston got hit pretty bad by storms last night. Hope all is well with TH.
