Not approving until confirmation.

Even though it's obvious it's true, still not good to post speculations.

Another Red Ring console for 299$? I have bought so many xboxs and all of them got a red ring. :banghead: I hoping my current one doesn't get one when call of duty modern warfare 2 comes out.

It's a good thing that I got insurance for my newest one incase it ever happens again. 299$ seems too good to be a "redless" xbox.

From what I've been hearing, the Jasper chip is pretty stable. Haven't seen much (if any) complains of RROD with it.

The previous Elites didn't have the Jasper though. Apparently only the Arcade and only the latest Pro consoles had it.

Maybe since they took the HDMI cables out, the new boxes will have Jasper.

You didn't have a warrenty?
Dude, I bought my 360 like 2 years ago.
I go and plug it in, throw Halo 3 in the disctray, get all mah drinks and snacks ready and BOOM.
Red ring of fucking death man. DEATH!

Worst. Christmas. Ever.
Did get a new one... Had to get that one replaced due to graphics card
falure though.

I'm so glad I invested in the protection plan...

Is it really that bad? I know my friend has had it 3 times and they repaired it each time, but then it exploded (literally!); come to think of it, most people I know who've had 360s have had a problem.

Pain that the PS3 isn't without fault either. I have an original 60GB and it got the "Yellow Light of Death" the other day :(
Shame they don't make 'em like they used to. My PS2 is still going after 7 years of solid abuse :D

That sucks Wiseman. PS3 malfunctions are so rare though. And even less now with the PS3 slims.

I have neither consoles yet but I am definitely leaning towards a PS3 just for its free online and reliability. For those who don't have a high disposable income (<- Student and do not work), Xbox's live fee is definitely going to add up for the remaining years it has.
Plus I see the PS3 expanding its userbase soon and maybe, just maybe the Xbox will become limited by its lack of blu ray support. Is it possible future games will require the high memory Blu Ray provides? Maybe not but it's something I've considered.

Previous the PS3's price cut, I was definitely going for the Xbox though. I prefer the Xbox controller of the PS3 and obviously it has a big userbase.

With the current graphic limitations of even the PS3, blu-ray is still far larger than needed for games. Unless the game is top of the line graphics in a game that has like 300 levels, they'll never use all the room.

Blu-ray is a gimmick to get people interested in the console, simple as that. "Hey, buy this one and you get a Blu-Ray player too!"

In short: Blu-Ray is cool for movies, pretty useless at the moment for games.

Both Microsoft and Sony said they'd hope the console last 10 years.
So anywhere around 2015. Could be much less though but more than 3 years from now I think.

Yes it is. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves uses 25GB - the full capacity of a single-layered Blu-Ray disc.

I think I am more annoyed that Guitar Hero: Metallica was stuck inside at the time. They are replacing the console (for a fee - but it's cheaper than getting a new one, and it's a 60GB, which they don't actually make anymore) this Friday but I don't get the game back for 6 weeks, by which time I'll be away at Uni.
How soon until the next generation of consoles come out?
Long time yet I would think. The PS2 is still having games produced for it and it's 3 years since the PS3 came out.

I ordered like five blocks for 15 dollars. They're just little aluminum blocks with holes drilled into them
  • Varine Varine:
They are pretty much disposable. I have shitty nozzles though, and I don't think these were designed for how hot I've run them
  • Varine Varine:
I tried to extract it but the thing is pretty stuck. Idk what else I can use this for
  • Varine Varine:
I'll throw it into my scrap stuff box, I'm sure can be used for something
  • Varine Varine:
I have spare parts for like, everything BUT that block lol. Oh well, I'll print this shit next week I guess. Hopefully it fits
  • Varine Varine:
I see that, despite your insistence to the contrary, we are becoming a recipe website
  • Varine Varine:
    Which is unique I guess.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Actually I was just playing with having some kind of mention of the food forum and recipes on the main page to test and see if it would engage some of those people to post something. It is just weird to get so much traffic and no engagement
  • The Helper The Helper:
So what it really is me trying to implement some kind of better site navigation not change the whole theme of the site
  • Varine Varine:
How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air
