Challenge #1 - The Battle for Gradford (September 25th, 19XX)

The Year is 19XX: In the Isolated reaches of the Pacific Ocean, the island of Writian, has experienced nearly two weeks of disarray as the two super powers that tried to control the strategic island have declared war on one enough. The Freelancer Federation and The United Dramatist Union broke out into violence, declaring war on each other thirteen days ago. Both are equally powerful in manpower and guns, so it will require creative tactics for one nation to conquer the other and whoever is the deviceful of them all, will remain dominate over the Island.
So who will win? Only Time can Tell...

The Game
Writer's War is a sort of Tournament, or competition where two teams of three to five writers (to start at least) battle each other out in different challenges every one to six weeks (Depending on the difficulty and degree of the previous Challenge.) The Team of Writers can choice to work as a collaboration, where two or more of them works on the challenge, or the team can take turn assigning one of their writers on the team to create and submit a work for the challenge by the deadline.

Points
Each Challenge will bring in different amounts of points depending on the type/form of writing, each of these points are represented as a square on the map. On the Map there are 90 Usable Squares on the Entire Map meaning 90 Points in total, each team having 45 points to start off with.

The List of Challenges and the Points they bring are as followed:
Designing a Quote or Phrase: Infantrymen
QuoteInfantry.png
- 1-2 Points
Creating a Poem : Grenadiers
PoetryG.png
- 2-4
Creating a Scene or Observation: Tank Barrage
Shortstoryscene.png
- 3-5 Points
Writing a Short Stories: Missile Launch
ShortStoryMissile.png
- 5-10 Points

Submission
Teams will submit their entries to me the day of or the morning after the challenge duration has ended. Entries from the team must be into me by Noon (12:00 pm) the following day, Eastern Standard Team (GMT-5) or they will not be accepted and your team will be forced to forfeit.

In the submission, you should include,
The Title: (If it has one)
Team Affiliation: (Your nation)
Written by: (Who was it written by?)
Number of Words:

Judging
Judging will not be done by any judge, instead a public poll when the challenge is completed, will be placed in the Writer's Corner, and will be opened for one week and which ever team maintains the highest number of votes will win all the points for that Challenge. (The entries will not be labeled inside the voting till after the winner has already been decided.)

Victory/Defeat
When a team wins a challenge over the other team, the losing team will unconditionally forfeit the number of squares and points that challenge offered to the winning team. Certain Challenges, will also contain rewards within them allowing for special advantages or more points to be gained in later challenges.

The Game itself will be over, when ether every square of territory from the one of the teams is lost, or the capital (not yet marked on the map) of that team has been conquered by the other.

Basic Rules of War
The simple and general rules of the game so that everything goes through smoothly.
  1. Players can not use prepublished work, from themselves or from anyone else, for submissions.
  2. Players are not allowed to vote in the public polls.
  3. Players are not to reveal their entries to anyone, public or privately outside of their own team.
Any incidents of cheating or breaking of these rules will ether result in the removal of the said person(s) from the game or the other team automatically winning and gaining 1.5x more points than normal. So if it was a 10 point match, the other team would gain 15 points in their victory.

Sign me up for the UDU. This could be fun.

I have a suggestion, if you like it grab it up, if not send it right back.

Maybe all the poems/quotes/stories could take place in the persistent world of Writian. We could have recurring characters and regions, and it would allow subsequent stories to build upon each other. The stories would literally chronicle the war between the two factions and the lives of those affected it. It would be like a Writing Meta-game. Just a suggestion.

Hmm didn't think about it that way, I would say its up to the majority of other players, if they want to do it that way I have no objections.

Player 1 -

DogsofHavoc of The United Dramatist Union

I would prefer the teams to be equal so the next player you will be assigned to The Freelancer Federation.

Sign me up for The United Dramatist Union. :)

There's one small thing though, The Team of Writers can choice to work as a collaboration

This should be The Team of Writers can choose to work as a collaboration

Middle sentence in "The Game" category.

Then again I'm not sure how you're trying to word that. Just pointing it out, I could be wrong. :p

Ah, damn, sighn me out. I just got a mail from my teacher that the exchange students are comming. I didn't realize that they are coming so soon.

Guess this means that I will have to miss out the first war... I hope I will have time for the second one (if there is a second one)

That is fine, you can always join later, but you won't have a choice in what team you join. (For it to be fair)

Something just occurred to me. Isn't the idea of a United Dramatist Union redundant?

It could be, but the "Dramatist Union" and the "United Dramatist" both don't sound as powerful. xD

@ Genkora
Yes, once I have 3-4 people on each team, and I am sure those people will stay to the end. I don't know why when the rewards for winning the war itself are massive. (Or what I plan the rewards to be.)

Genkora your on the Freelancer Fed.

Hey I suggest you higher the points required for the ranks, becuase lets say I turn in a Short story, thats like 5-10 points, and boom i'm either 1/4 up the ranks, or 1/2 up the ranks. Idk just something to think about.

Well your suppose to use teamwork, as in take turns on the writing or collab together and the ranks are nothing more than you to brag about yourself.

However, the Ranks will definitely show if someone is doing all the work, but I will probably add more ranks later on.

You should add rules about what you can consider something once it is submitted. For example, a short story should be at least 1500 words, and have a conclusion, or something like that. This way, people won't just submit short little stories whipped up really fast for more points.

Well, that's up for the public to decide. If you make your short story really short, with no conclusion and with crappy detail. It won't or at least shouldn't win the poll.

I really didn't want to limit you guys in any way-shape or form so you guys couldn't rant to me and say I am limiting you. You need to please your audience not me. So if you lost the first challenge hopefully the public will tell you why and you can improve on that.

However if I see it to be a problem I will add that rule in.
The biggest writing "rule" I need all to follow is that it has to be in English and spell checked.

BTW the issue has come up that people may try to make multiple accounts, and if I find that you are, I will be able to know as I can access any IP on this site. Also you are breaking the site rules so you could even get temp-banned.

@thewrongvine
You're a better writer than me. Wha choo' talkin' about?

I ordered like five blocks for 15 dollars. They're just little aluminum blocks with holes drilled into them
  • Varine Varine:
They are pretty much disposable. I have shitty nozzles though, and I don't think these were designed for how hot I've run them
  • Varine Varine:
I tried to extract it but the thing is pretty stuck. Idk what else I can use this for
  • Varine Varine:
I'll throw it into my scrap stuff box, I'm sure can be used for something
  • Varine Varine:
I have spare parts for like, everything BUT that block lol. Oh well, I'll print this shit next week I guess. Hopefully it fits
  • Varine Varine:
I see that, despite your insistence to the contrary, we are becoming a recipe website
  • Varine Varine:
    Which is unique I guess.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Actually I was just playing with having some kind of mention of the food forum and recipes on the main page to test and see if it would engage some of those people to post something. It is just weird to get so much traffic and no engagement
  • The Helper The Helper:
So what it really is me trying to implement some kind of better site navigation not change the whole theme of the site
  • Varine Varine:
How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air
