music isnt just about the actual music, all the packaging around music is important too, actually its probably the most important one.
Auto tune is a technology, i use it, i dont use it to actually tune of voice to the proper note but i use it for its effects when sung into.

What i think is, when will you realize the trend of music today, and the technology its using. Because your stuck in the past, and music today aint what it was 30 years ago. Theres nothing wrong with autotune, theres nothing wrong with being cute, but im pretty sure either T-Pain or Taylor swift have more musical talent than you will ever have.

I play drums. I have auto tune. I can do more things than T-Pain can.

Taylor Swift can sing. But I have more talented friends.

Though it may seem like I'm stuck in the past there are many modern bands I like though, more in the Rock/Punk/Prog genre.

As the Dead Kennedys would say:

"I'm tired of self respect
I can't afford a car
I wanna be a prefab superstar

I wanna be a tool
Don't need no soul
Wanna make big money
Playing rock and roll

I won't offend
Or rock the boat
Just sex and drugs
And rock and roll "

Even those last two lines aren't even part of these Pop "Rockers" repertoire. As that would offend Disney and heaven forbid integrity over money.

Recall, this is a discussion of Taylor Swift and what we think of her, not who we think among this community is musically gifted and not.

For a young individual writing acoustic pieces, singing and performing, she has a lot of talent. However, I'd say she's a stronger performer then musician, which I think is a fair description of what she does.

Not a big fan of Taylor swift, She may be the greatest person in the world, and could solve world hunger tomorrow, but her music would still sound like teenage-wannabe-country-singer trash to me. I've got nothing against young bands either, because personally i love Black Tide, and they are MUCH younger than Taylor Swift (but they have WAY more talent).

And srsly... who said Nsync was good? they were nothing but 5 pretty boys thrown on stage, with no ability to sing, they could dance, look pretty, and lip sync to a shitty beat.

i fail to see how the Black Tide is "MUCH younger" than Taylor Swift, unless they are some 6 year old kids than i wouldn't call it that.

Nsync was good because Justin Timberlake was in there, Justin can sing, he does hes shows live without any lip sync, he still could dance and look pretty, he produce most of hes tracks and he manages to sell, don't see how he was just a pretty boy.

I think its fair to say our individual view on whos got more talent varies a lot, so im not going to comment on bartucs comment on them having way more talent.

All members of Black tide are under 21, two are still in high school, and the lead singer was only 15 when they recorded their first album, how is that not talent?

If you havnt read the previous post which i posted that Taylor Swift is currently 19, she recorded her first album when she was 16
The album has been on the U.S. Billboard 200 for 163 weeks and is currently at #44[3] and thus became the longest charting album by a country female artist in the entire Nielsen SoundScan era and is the longest charting album surpassing Nickelback's All the Right Reasons, which logged 156 weeks.[4] It has sold over 4,479,867+ copies to date in the U.S. as of the issue dated December 5, 2009[5][6] It has been certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA.[7][8] On September 6, 2009 the album entered the official UK Album Top 100, rising from number 138 the following week to number 88 and is currently at number 46.
and she also produced most of her tracks.

I didnt say they dont have talent, i've never listened to them so i cant make a comment yet

Wow. Did some searching... They are an incarnation of 80's power metal. EPIC WIN.

Thank you for pointing this band to me.

Not to mention how happy I am that someone else has taste in non-overproduced, non-mainstream, music that is actually pleasing to some who knows something about music theory.

I feel entitled to it. Despite what you may think, I actually have quite an appreciation for manyh genres of music. Even appreciating the mainstream stuff up until the turn of the millennium. I have tried to look at music theory, and while do not feel that I am really experienced in the field I have done my research. Therefor I think lowly of this four-corded shovel music.

On topic:

When Taylor Swift learns to play more than two types of songs. I may start caring (Seriously, they are all that kind of up beat four-courd "happy" sound or that teen-pop melodrama minor sound).

the amount of work put into a song doesnt affect the outcome, which is whether people like the sound or not. It could be the easiest thing in the world e.g. Soulja Boy's Crank that or like Shes got a donk they to me are the worst form of music ever but still people like it why? because it sounds good, thats all it matters. you can have all the modulation in the world, all the chord progression and all the fanciest melody but it still won't beat this crappy 4 chord "happy" sound because in the end this sounds better.

P.S. im not saying there isn't any that can't beat it.

1. Taylor Swift can sing.

2. Taylor Swift writes her own music.

3. There are no Big labels apart from Disney, Disney owns pretty much all the big music labels.

And what exactly does Taylor swift stand for? Theres like 3 people saying, I hate everything Taylor Swift stands for... care to expand on that? To me it just sounds like your crying and trying to be cool by not liking her, but you can't think of an excuse not to like her.

Personally I'm not a great fan of her music, but I do like that she actually does write her own music, not like Miley Cyrus or like Britney Spears.

Edit: If you listen to "Tell Me Why" by Taylor Swift, it is cleverly constructed in a way. (For all those talking about the four chord prog). But it still does keep its roots in the four chord prog.

Taylor Swift isn't mainly that good because she can sing well (like someone said, she's not phenomenal, just above average), but because she writes her own songs. She writes them, and then sings them herself. A lot of people write good songs to but don't sing them, and then... they just become the backstage writer.

Bolded text are my comments.

1. Taylor Swift can sing.

Slightly above average, There are better singers out there. She's far from great, barley brushing good.

2. Taylor Swift writes her own music.

Good for her, that doesn't make the songs any better though. I would rather listen to songs that were written by someone else if they have even a little meaning (or humour).

3. There are no Big labels apart from Disney, Disney owns pretty much all the big music labels.

Yeah because Universal Music Group doesn't count. Or Sony Music Entertainment or EMI. None of those exist.

And what exactly does Taylor swift stand for? Theres like 3 people saying, I hate everything Taylor Swift stands for... care to expand on that? To me it just sounds like your crying and trying to be cool by not liking her, but you can't think of an excuse not to like her.

She stands for the fact that anyone can make a song. Be it good bad or downright appalling if they can use auto-tune and "look cool". That's not what music is about.

Why is music theory a big deal? Because I study it, what I think sounds good changes?

I'd take her music any day, simple catchy songs with an acoustic guitar, than the obnoxious hip hop and R&B crap which takes other people's lyrics and melodies and then rapes them for profit.

I like Taylor Swift's music. It's simple and enjoyable. I would hardly say she's this "evil thing" ruining music, considering that she doesn't pull ridiculous publicity stunts and she hasn't gotten caught in any scandal. Seems so far, so good.

Then there's Disney. Of course I'm talking with the type of people who generally resent Disney. I don't see why; Disney does some damn good business and turns an awesome profit with amazing marketing. As a company, I respect them. Then of course everyone says, "Oh wow, Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers have absolutely no talent, I can't believe they're famous wow music is dying!" The people that listen to that music like it because it's energetic, and it's something to dance to. Why is that bad? If they truly enjoy that music, why the hell would they stop?

Personally, I don't like Jonas Brothers or Miley Cyrus, but I don't care if others do. Why should I be angry at a couple kids who make millions of people happy?

I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air
