Fable III
Developed by Lionhead Studios
Release Date: Q4 2010

Taking a different path from the previous Fable games, Fable III will not, technically, be an RPG. It's still a third person action game, and still has the breadcrumb trail and dog. It takes place in Albion once again, 60 years after Fable II. However, there will be no experience, no health, no orbs, no augments. There is no HUD.

So how does one progress? That would be through one's weapon. The more a player uses his or her weapon, the stronger it will become, and the more unique. Depending on how you use it (AKA what you kill with it) the weapon will change.

Peter Molyneux (top dog) has asserted that the player will be the king halfway through the game, where players will be making decisions for the entire kingdom. This, it seems, has always been the goal of Fable; to have the player making lasting decision that affect everyone.

One of the newest, and most exciting, mechanics would be the touch mechanic. Essentially, you'll be a allowed to interact with just about anyone in a number of ways; whether that's holding a child in your arms, or dragging an innocent victim into the alley to murder.

________________

I'm excited to see how this game turns out, but I'm not quite sold on the whole king part. They keep going for the whole "every action has a consequence" deal, but I feel like they've been beaten to the punch, several times over, by BioWare.

I guess it's nice to see a change every once in a while, but we'll have to wait and see how this goes.

if fable III gets as much hype and falls short again, people are going to start getting tired of it.

That is what you think^^
That sentence actually makes more sense to me if you change people to "teenagers without patience":D
I and my friend loved the two other games, I still play TLC a little now and then just for fun as well, and I probably won't be dissapointed with Fable3 either:D

This will be just as good a game as the other two where :) And you can't say that the first game was not good and different:D

I am unhappy.

This is a really radical change. If they don't do this right, the game is already doomed to fail, just from this sentence. I predict even if they do whatever they're trying to do properly, it won't be as great as they want it to be BECAUSE it is so radically different. Gamers have, in the past, demonstrated that they are creatures of habit and as such, do not always like change.

So how does one progress? That would be through one's weapon. The more a player uses his or her weapon, the stronger it will become, and the more unique. Depending on how you use it (AKA what you kill with it) the weapon will change.

I don't know how to feel about this. Throughout the course of the game, you kill tons of people. Everyone will affect you? That means it will either take forever to get the effect you want or it'll happen REALLY quickly and then you won't care anymore.

Peter Molyneux (top dog) has asserted that the player will be the king halfway through the game, where players will be making decisions for the entire kingdom. This, it seems, has always been the goal of Fable; to have the player making lasting decision that affect everyone.

I see the word "king", not "ruler". We can't play as females this time? We're taking things AWAY from the game now? I hope not...

Making decisions for the entire Kingdom? Kinda like you do in an RTS game? Are we magically changing/merging genres together now?

That's going to go over well...

Not.

This is hit or miss. It'll either be really awesome or too complicated/vague to capture us and will make the entire game fail.

I am skeptical, at best... Which is a sad thing to say about a series where I enjoyed the first two games.

Maybe no Fable is good Fable anymore :(

A game is a game, lol...
People are getting too complicated about them these days.
The only way it'll suck is if you believe it sucks. ^^

that sounds so badass! i loved fable 1 and 2 do death, and from the sounds of it id miss the way fable 1 and 2 was set up but in general reading that it sounds so cool. im def buying this, cuz i loved fab 1 and 2 but also cuz it sounds good. the last line of what was posted reminds me of splinter cell. sneaking up to someone, grabbing them, and snapping their neck in a dark alley.

The release was last Tuesday. I got it and beat it once already, but I'd like to know if I am alone in getting this before I start talking about it?

did you beat it storyline wise or did you beat it as in did everything there is to do? in fable 2 (if there was a completion status) i woulda had 100%. i had every achievement, every book, every house, every furniture, every demon door, every rare wep/item, every sidequest, you get the idea.

Is the game fun? i really wanna get it but im prolly not until the game of the year edition which im hoping has all the DLC in it, and all the other stuff.

My friend got it and we played through it in coop mode a couple of days ago. We could not finish it though since I had to go away :(
The coop is so much better than in the second one.
I am curious as to how the empire running thing is handled^^

I've played it a bit, and so far all I can say is that it handles almost exactly the same as Fable 2. Will elaborate more as a get farther

How can you say that? They have changed a lot:eek:
The way you interact with people have been changed a bit, the combat has been improved. The coop felt to me like a whole new experience.

I'm not saying it's bad, but to me it just feels like it's the same as Fable 2. Combat feels really similar, although the ability to combine spells is awesome, switching from guns to magic to melee is all the same, although still good. Haven't tried coop, although one of my friends said split screen is terrible due to the camera.

from what ive heard so far this game is good, so i am going to stop reading this thread until i pick up and beat the game to avoid spoilers.

j/w though, they mentioned trying to go away from an rpg type game and more focus on the wep rather than lvling... how is that working out? did they actually implement it or is it still the same concept?

I think that the camera at least felt a bit better in this game, it took a while to get used to my friends erratic movement though^^

If you by "wep" mean weapon then yes^^ They actually have both the leveling weapons and the leveling of the hero.

The leveling thing, where you pick magic and such is a place you enter and you select the things from chests. It is depicted as a long road leading up to a castle. As you progress through the main story you unlock more gates.
Your weapons level up when you open their respective chests, sword and hammers for melee and guns for ranged and so on.
This is also when they change appearances.

In addition to that your weapons have their own achievement, like marry 5 people to get +10 damage and such, each weapon I have found have had 3 of these each fitting to the theme of the weapon.

My friend and I found one pistol each that had an achievement that added shotgun burst to the weapon:)

The demon doors and chests are still there. The gargoyles has been replaced with gnomes. No need to look for these in the beginning since they won't be released until after completing a side quest.
