That reminded me of Serious Sam for some reason. :)
I'm surely going to keep my eyes open for this one!

As for suggestions, it would be nice if there were some preset selections of items at the start-up screen. A recommended default if you will. On my first time, I would be blank-faced by the whole array of options available.

Is there a final boss?

I'd have to agree with Ancanus here. Besides his suggestion for a 'default kit' or 'starter kit', I would have to say: Have more enemy variety/battle situations? As cool as it is slaughtering these zerg with your sniper rifle, I think if you could make the enemies a bit more difficult than 'run away and shoot them' sort of deal, it would make the teamwork (I assume you'll be implementing 4 player co-op from the UI?) more essential, and thus more fun!! =D

Other than that, it looks awesome. Looks like you guys put a lot of effort in this and it's turning out nicely. Keep it up !!

EDIT I think you typo'd the game title in your thread title :p

yeah, agree with the other suggestions, though varied terrain and possibly shooting down from cliffs would be sweeeeet.

is that gun mouse controlled? would <3 if it was...

now all someone needs to do is make a portal type game and sc2 will be complete.

^always something positive to add to a thread:rolleyes:
as long as it looks better and plays better than trixy's wc3 sniper game I'll be happy.

I wonder how good the AoS sniper fps games will be. I'll be hoping. nudge nudge map makers;)

I don't think people should use their time recreating FPS games. We have the actual FPS games for that, and as cool as the new SC2 game engine is, it wasn't made for FPS. An FPS in SC2 will never be good enough for true enjoyment, it might be cool for the first 10 minutes, but after that, I don't think it'll be very cool.

Just my 2 cents.

well ill have to admit i dont see the point in having fps games in sc2... at least for the moment it doesn't seem like a good idea.
3rd person shooters on the other hand could end up being so great. I mean not that someone have to care about my opinion... just usually a fps is mostly about shooting stuff while being in the shooting entity without lots of variety in skills and whatever. Ofc games like Borderlands beg to differ a little...(borderlands has 1 special ability for each class and a lot of triggerable or permanent buffs that you can skill that are helping passively) But usually 3rd person is used for games that have more gimmicks like special abilitys or even jet packs and stuff.

Nontheless I'd love to know how you've done the "shooting system" because that's what's bringing a lot of trouble to my map.

Forgive me, but I find that argument very hollow. Its like saying no one should make a 3rd person shooter because the SC2 wasnt designed for it. The original map editor showcase had the creators specifically mentioning FPS support and they demoed a 3rd person shooter, so they clearly had these games types in mind when designing GE.

Im not sure what this 'true enjoyment' that you mention is, but it sounds like it exists outside the realm of SC2 completely. Im reminded of a famous philosopher stating that what was best in life was "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women."

In all seriousness though Im not sure why you would dismiss FPS in SC2 outright, and Im not just speaking about Vestras anymore. Im of the belief that maps should be short lived anyway. I can think of numerous ideas involving FPS support in maps which would certainly boost many levels of enjoyment.

In the end I would only judge a map by its creativity, effectiveness of implementation, and difficulty. In those regards, props to Bloodnglory. I believe that is the nicest looking (in my own opinion) FPS map I have seen thus far.

its got some stutter, far away textures pop in as well..

A FPS map built here is never going to be an elite graphical powerhouse, at least not anytime soon... So don't look for them to replace the elite FPS out there...

Maybe a year down the road.. with utilities and tools, maybe more support from Blizz, the engine can do this a little better with the cam at this pov.

but for now it is sort of a novelty... A novelty which is ok, and we should all cut any FPS's made some slack... Give a team some time... to make better levels, spawns, and such, give it a neat story or some cool multiplayer gameplay... and it could be fun... But it will never replace regular elite FPS's

I was looking forward to Ghost, and kind of upset it got canned...
Getting a soldiers view of the entire battle field... Infiltrating cc's and nexuses with the character and effecting the overall war... This could give us that... it wont be too pretty... Throw outdoor vistas, trees, doodads, lots of units, etc, into this.. it it may be a stuttering mess...

i prefer FPS to 3rd person shooters... tho i dont mind a 3rd person shooter if i can play with a gamepad, and high fps. My computers have never been top of the line, the one im on now being the strongest, so consoles have been for 3PS's for me... I prefer mouse/keyboard for FPS's, and gamepads for 3PS...

Lets give these type of maps some time to get better over the next few years.. then lets judge them and comment on the state of FPS in maps then...

Cool for 10 minutes is an achievement in itself. :)

But I see what you mean by FPS becoming chore-like after a prolonged time. The solution is to add a Deathmatch (read: PvP) mode. That's what kept Doom alive!

I dont think any map that comes out for SC2 is necessarily to compete/overthrow with full game titles that are getting developed by teams of professional programmers.

I think in the end, intuitiveness will be a winning quality of good maps, and if not that then the level of fun in the gameplay and content (good stories, epic battles, unique bosses, etc) will be what makes good maps last.

While i love the idea behind premium maps, so the makers of the map get paid some, I use and love BNet because its free lol

and i dont plan on buying any map
its gonna kinda suck when the best funnest maps are pay only..

Why waste time on games like this. They will never be any fun for multiplayer on Bnet.

Lag times simply make multiplayer aspects of FPS worthless.

250ms minimum simply will not cut it

Actually I was just playing with having some kind of mention of the food forum and recipes on the main page to test and see if it would engage some of those people to post something. It is just weird to get so much traffic and no engagement
  • The Helper The Helper:
So what it really is me trying to implement some kind of better site navigation not change the whole theme of the site
  • Varine Varine:
How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air
  • The Helper The Helper:

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
