EDIT: Meant to post this in Members' Projects....

So even with the explosion of tower defense games throughout various mediums I still love them. More specifically I love tower defense games on WC3.

Sooo... I spent some time to make a 4 player tower defense game. Typical maze to prevent creeps from reaching the end point deal. One small hitch is that I made the game without the expansion and plan to keep it that way.

It's a cooperative tower defense game and I'm a little drunk but I hope my paint skills explain how creep spawn and pathing works. Red and blue leak to teal and teal leaks to purp. Purps leaks cost lives. Red and blue have full spawns and teal and purp have 3/4 spawns.

There are currently 30 levels or, 6 phases of 5 rounds following this pattern.
1 - Unarmored
2 - Medium
3 - Fortified
4 - Hero (Fast)
5 - Divine (Air)

4 and 5 levels are where you make bunches of gold. 1-3 don't yield much in comparison for spoils.

Here's everything that I haven't done yet or plan on doing soon.

-make the map more interesting visually
-rebalance to maintain more even level difficulty
-add some color to text
-tips
-player leave trigger (this is rly overdue)
-specific incremental gold sharing
-5 more regular levels + 5 boss levels
-more interesting and useful intro
-I got some ideas for the open space above purp. just havent applied anything yet

A lot of my triggers are more literal than they need to be. I realize many of them could be greatly shortened. I'm not afraid of repetition though. :)

sooooooooooooooooooo lmk if I should keep goin. :)

Me, too. :)

That'll be rather limiting. :(

then i saw the picture without continue reading and i said, yeah, drunk. :D
Anyway sounds like a very nice idea to make it non expansion needed, cause i've seen here and there people with questions about non expansion stuff.

If you want to use WarCraft's full capacity to represent things, you should make it an Expansion map. Like ShoppingMaul is. Keeping it RoC will fail.

I even own the expansion and could make the upgrade at any time. Still not gonna. :)

White lines were actual paths creeps follow where the red lines indicate where the creeps go when the reach the end of a particular lane.

The reason I made it 4 players is because I never see small tower defense games. The map is 64x64 I think. I didn't balance anything based on any formula or number pattern. I just changed the hp of monsters to what I thought the towers constructed by players at that point in the game would be capable of.

I'm gonna keep the literal armor names for now because I don't want certain mechanical information to be clouded by nonsensical jibberish.

Also, if you want an internet meme TD I'd recommend some sort of customizable towers.

With selectable abilities.

And maybe random names. If possible. Out of a set of words, spewing random combinations. That would make it closer to the idea of internet memes.

Its like allowing memes in your own map. If there's enough building blocks and possibilities.

maybe you could give the ones who will not download and test play the map some information about how it is.

are the creeps only spawning for red and blue? or do teal and purple get their own creeps as well?

if its the first then teal and purple might have only very little to do most of the time. if its the latter teal and purple will get alot more kills most probably. thus teal and purple with either get alot less gold or alot more.

that should be kept in mind for the balancing or you might make it like this:
no matter which player killed a creep all players will get a reward for it.

I answered that in my first post I think.

Red and Blue get full spawns and Teal and Purp get 3/4 spawns. Teal usually ends up with the most kills unless Red and Blue are good.

Well like already mentioned, keeping the map RoC will drastically reduce the functionality and versatility of the map and, frankly, the entire editor. There was a list - not a comprehensive one mind you - of essential things RoC cannot do short of hacking the editor and manipulating the MPQ archives, but I can't for the love of me remember where it is (Or if it even existed o_O I have such a short memory :p ). If you want to keep the map butt simple and plain, RoC isn't all that bad. But if you plan on implementing things that require NewGen and similar resources, you're out of luck for as far as I know RoC is not capable of interpreting the JASS libraries that I see often.

I have seen two mapmakers here that insisted on making a map in RoC, and I cannot begin to comprehend their motives as to why.

*EDIT* locust. LOCUST. I think that was one of the TFT specific abilities that every mapmaker REQUIRES no questions asked.

I don't aspire towards anything that would ever make use of the things you just mentioned. Anyone saved my map is xpac and tried it out? xD

AIDS, etc may not be what you're aspiring towards, but sooner or later - in this map or elsewhere - Locust is going to come into play.

LoL can anyone move this into members projects? I now have a few days to work on this so hopefully I'll have all the little things braced up.
