Greetings Helpers,

Romek and I have talked and he gave me permission to host a spell contest. Therefore, Here we go.

Theme
HeroesLogo.jpg

Heroes - The champions of races, or, the champions period. They can be evil, good, no matter the side, just make a hero that you yourself have envisioned.

The Rules:

  • Imports are allowed, up to a maximum of 700 KB's. (Per import)
Spells must be solely made for this contest.
    Spells must all be triggered.
Spells can be any form of code that you wish, GUI, vJass, or JASS.
No converted code from GUI to JASS, or pseudo locals.
Heroes can have any multitude of levels of spells, only thing I ask, is that they make sense. (EX 1 level 5 regular spell, 1 level 72 regular spell, and one level 57 ultimate won't do. Spells in the regular category should all be leveled at once.)

I will be using Romeks grading to grade. I will also use public votes. The Public Votes will count as 30% of the grading.

Therefore - ((Spell 1 Score / 60) * .125) + ((Spell 2 Score / 60) * .125) +
((Spell 3 Score / 60) * .125) +
((Spell 4 Score / 60) * .125) + ((Synergy Score / 20) * .2) + ((Votes / Total Votes) * .3)

The Grading:
The grading will be done solely by me, using the following criteria. Note that each category includes, but isn't limited to the bullet-points underneath it.

Each spell will be graded accordingly to these, then the total score will be fit in to each spell.

Code - 20 Points
Is it MUI or MPI?
Does it leak?
Can it be easily configured? (Damage, effect, etc)
Is it efficient?

Eye-Candy - 20 Points
Does it look good?
Are there enough effects?
Do the effects not melt my eyeballs? (Is it overdone?)
Are the effects appropriate, or are random effects just played randomly?

Theme - 10 Points
Does the spell go well with the hero?
If so, how well?

Other - 10 Points
Does it amaze me when I use it?
Is it original?

Total: - 60 Points

After the spells are graded, I will grade the synergy.

Synergy - 20 Points
Do the spells work well together?
Did you choose the right spells for the model?
How is the general feel for the hero?

Rewards

  • First Place - 35 Rep
    Second Place - 25 Rep
    Third Place - 15 Rep

Contest Starts: April 26
Contest Ends: May 25

Good Luck!

Does the spell go well with the theme?
with which theme? that they are spells of a hero?

besides, passive, active abilities, are all allowed?

All ability types are allowed. And the theme of the hero, for example, you choose an arcane mage, and if you did all fire spells.

I updated it with the correct theme type.

specifically, for what type of map will our heroes be? is it for a melee map, an AoS or simply an WTF-IMBA map?

you should also mention that the spells should be levelable (and yeah what XeNiM666 said, should the hero be somewhat balanced, or just pumped-up with imba spells?)

I kinda don't like the fact that each spell is graded individually
cause if I wanted to make some simpler spell that works very well with other 3, it would give me less points :/
something like adding combo points per attack to a target and then dealing bonus effects with other spells depending on number of combo points

also it would take a lot of time to code and grade 4 over-complicated spells (1 spell took Romek a month :p)

after all, this should be a hero contest, not a spellpack contest, where the hero should be graded overall

I like the theme, because there is no any :)

i agree with dinowc, grading 4 spells individually is really alot of work and i doubt a single person could grade this many spells (depending on how many entries will be submitted) in detail.

i would rather advice to change the focus of grading, maybe you could add a balance component to it. (though, thinking about this, grading balancing isnt all that easy either)

Edit:
Are we restricted to the common hero builds? Like 3 normals skills each with 3 levels and 1 ultimate one level skill? or are we free to create whichever hero we feel like?

You make a good point about the simpler spell, However, if you notice, Synergy, which is how well the spells work together, is worth 20%, so if you make a simple spell, you can still retain the points with Synergy, (Although, I will grade the spells differently now that you mention that)

Is a background story needed?
No, not needed, but make one if you think you need to.

@The edit, no, Feel free to make a hero which goes to level 25 and has 5 skill levels then a 4 level ultimate. I'm not grading skill level.

Now, Romek, he doesn't have a whole lot of free time, with Essays and schoolwork and such. However, I myself, I have hours upon hours of freetime, So I can grade many spells in the timeframe of say 1 week.

Rules are a bit foggy but I suppose I'll join.

This looks like a good contest though :D

EDIT Do we need 3 skills with 3 levels and a single one level ultimate (DotA/Melee style)?

EDITEDIT Can we use systems, snippets, and so on?

I'm still wondering, what does "No converted code from GUI to JASS, or psuedo locals" mean?

Pseudo is used to mark something as false, fraudulent, or pretending to be something it is not.

Therefore, no "pseudo" (My bad, I misspelled it), means in essence, no false locals.

And the converted code rule, I think you get that one. Converted code looks like sh*t.

So actions like
Trigger:
  • Custom script: local location Point = GetSpellTargetLoc()

aren't allowed, then? Shoot.

Help Users
  • No one is chatting at the moment.
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
