Two million-year-old bones belonging to a creature with both apelike and human traits provide the clearest evidence of evolution's first major step toward modern humans — findings some are calling a potential game-changer.

An analysis of the bones found in South Africa suggests Australopithecus sediba is the most likely candidate to be the ancestor of humans, said lead researcher Lee R. Berger of the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.

The fossils, belonging to a male child and an adult female, show a novel combination of features, almost as though nature were experimenting. Some resemble pre-human creatures while others suggest the genus Homo, which includes Homo sapiens, modern people.

"It's as if evolution is caught in one vital moment, a stop-action snapshot of evolution in action," said Richard Potts, director of the human origins program at the Smithsonian Institution. He was not among the team, led by South African scientists, whose research was published online Thursday in the journal Science.

Why, why WHY do scientists/archaeologists keep wanting to prove that we came from apes?
I personally believe that we, humans, have always existed ever since the first human existed. We did not "evolve" from apes. Is it so hard to believe? Although humans and apes have much in common, just like most of the fish in the ocean have lots in common, the scientists don't say that one kind of fish evolved from a different kind....
Personally, I think it's a waste of time and money trying to prove that apes are the ancestors of humans. Well, if their theory is correct, the apes will, eventually develop into very smart animals, develop technology and wage war against humans for dominance of earth. Sighz....

You're whats wrong with the world.

I originally had typed up a long response, then deleted it and decided to just go with that simple statement.

@Wummi
We know we came from apes even if you don't like it. But that doesn't mean that we truly are apes. You see the difference between them and us.
So we have to be 100% sure about that. Then scientists' job is to be 100% sure if we came from apes.

But if you believe that aliens brought you here, to master the earth's creatures, this is another thing.

As you may see, some indian and african tribes are keeping a traditional life, meaning that they stopped evolve.
Don't you see that this is a great example how we came from apes?
Some kinds of animals stopped, evolve others don't. Some found out that if they don't evolve they will not survive.
I read the news that a species of apes now try to make weapons from wood and stone.
They are millions of years before us :D

EDIT: evolute-->evolve
How the fuck i forgot this word, and the Opera showed me this word exists....

"Evolute"?
You mean "evolving", "evolving" and "evolve" respectively, right?

I'm pretty sure they do say fish come from a common ancestor... but fish aren't that interesting in comparison to humans as they lack much intelligence. Otherwise I'd imagine they would learn to not bite shiny sharp things after all this time.

Tell that to dolphins :D

Dolphins, whales, seals are mammals, but no fish is mammal. They also have lungs. They were creatures that went off the sea, but they couldn't make it in the land, so they went again in sea.
You must know, that whales' tail is two feet stuck.

How do you KNOW "we came from apes"? That is what scientists are TRYING to prove, and it is what I disagree with. Humans and apes just have a striking resemblance, but it may just be like sardines and salmons. You can't say "Oh, we know sardines evolved from salmons" or "salmons evolved from sardines". They're just 2 different fishes, nothing more to say. Humans and apes are just two different mammals.
I do not believe aliens brought us here. I believe we just exist, just like how giraffes exist, and how elephants exist. What do you say those 2 animals evolved from? I don't think they really evolved from anything. They simply came into existence when the time was right.

We existed from long time ago with a developed cerebrum, allowing us to continue to develop fast, much faster than other animals. If what you say is true about "some found out that if they don't evolve they will not survive" then those schools of fishes being eaten by sharks will soon develop something to annihilate all sharks in the sea. You see, there isn't a single dominant race of fish in the ocean. It's a big cycle. According to your theory, then some race in the ocean will surely be developing technology already after millions of years, because they're being eaten in this big food chain. Even the biggest whales can be "ganked" by other big predators like killer fishes, which means that they're not the dominant race of the oceans.
Humans are the only real dominant race on earth. We are our own unique species, and I don't believe we evolved from apes. Giraffes had the longest necks to start with, and we humans just had the best brains to begin with. Unfortunately for the apes, they probably had the longest toes to start with.

By the way, I'm not really pro-creation. I just believe we existed a long long time ago, and the universe has simply existed as well.

That's a pretty serious accusation without anything to back it up with. I'm sure many of us would be interested to see what you have to say. Note: From where I live, Youtube is blocked. Using proxies is way too slow (school internet is ridiculously slow, and the videos don't even load).

We can Just come from "several other species of human". Very very long ago.
That we don't know of. Really! But surely not from apes.

So not the animals that most resemble our structure?

Evolution is a widely accepted theory by the vast majority of scientists who know more about it and understand it far better than anyone in this thread.

Arguing against it is an exercise in ignorance and futility.

Spend some time on Google before you keep arguing.
