I'm Just curious. What do you believe in (And what is) "luck"? Or vice versa "Bad Luck"?
And do you believe that some people have more luck than the others ?

let's say, you survive from falling from the top of a 6 story building. That's Luck Isn't it?
Or some people winning the lottery over and over again and other don't.

So whats your point of view on Luck?

Depends on how you define luck.

If you define a lucky person as "A person who is more likely than the average (in his situation) to be the recipient of events that would be called lucky" then no.
If you define a lucky person as "A person who has been the recipient of of events that we call lucky on a rate higher than the average (in his situation)" then yes.

I think the second one is consistent with what most people think is luck. You don't call someone lucky unless he has had something lucky already happening to him.
But I also think that some people think that people who conform to the second definition also must conform to the first definition.
But that is in my opinion only because said people has a very lousy grasp on statistics.

Btw, I wouldn't call falling from the top of a 6 story building lucky even if you survive. But I get what you mean ^^

I agree with Phyrex.

I don't think that one person just starts as being a lucky person. They are only ever referred to as lucky when a lucky event has happened. Luck is just a word to describe when someone has a god event happen, which doesn't usually happen or is unlikely to happen.

Yes, I believe there is luck. However in my case it usually comes along with bad luck. But at least I'm not only stuck with bad luck, right?

If a person win the the lottery twice in a day "Btw: true story" you're a lucky person. No? That isn't made up @shinami
And Let say If you win the lottery "one's, that's good luck?!

We can say he had both. Right? Well, bad luck turns into good luck?!

A person isn't "born lucky", you don't have a magic spell that is cast on you at birth making you "luckier" than other people. Luck is all coincidence, and why must people always assume that because something happened, there was a reason? Just accept the fact that you're not special, you don't have a magic spell cast on you that made that event happen, and that you just got lucky (as defined by Phyrex1an's second definition). I'm all for living your life and having a good life, but don't convince yourself that you're living in some soft of fairytale with some luck aura around you... :p

we aren't born with luck

I consider myself born lucky, I was born in a country that gave me access to air conditioning and the internet, as opposed to more then half the world that isn't

./ I also agree with #2

also, some people are better at predicting events and being prepared, and therefore often are viewed as more lucky (i.e. bringing an umbrella and then when it rains, not getting soaked)

Isn't that more like a intuition and not a prediction?

It's random.

When something random happens that you benefit from, you might consider yourself lucky.

But luck is no actually attribute people possess. Someone's "luck" can never affect the random outcome. But the outcome can be considered unlucky/lucky from someone's perspective.

You don't understand. The word "luck" and it's concept was made up by people. There's no such predetermined thing. If a person wins two lotteries in a day, it means just that - a person won two lotteries. He doesn't have a luck gene, or a lucky spoon in his pocket that has magical effects. However we will call this good fortune "luck", thus it's a human made up thing.

Yeah and? It's the same thing for bad luck, accident, faith. Just name it. No?
Well, that's why I said everything is made up to! Apart that Slapshot136 said. Earth and Nature already existed. Ah, but that wasn't the point

I'm just going to say that I think that luck is just a random event with a positive consequence. Bad luck is a random event with a negative consequence.
This leads us to many paradoxes; Is it good luck that you won the lottery when your poor and sick neighbour didn't? Or that you are born in a country where you can eat, drink and wash every day, and sleep your nights in peace and safety when millions of people can't.
Luck's a very philosophical subject.
On a related note: I consider myself somewhat lucky. Born in a first world country and no diseases. I just wish there's something I could do for those hungry people all over the world. :(
