A surgeon who told a patient he had successfully removed her brain tumour and urged her not to seek further treatment had in fact not removed it, a misconduct hearing has heard.

Emmanuel Labram allegedly convinced his patient that she was healthy for two years after operating a tumour growing at the base of her brain. By the time she sought private help, her tumour was inoperable, according to the Times.

Mr Labram is now appearing before a Medical Practitioners Tribunal Hearing.

How does a person live with themselves after doing something like that? Especially a Doctor.

I'm more interested in why he would lie to her. If they went through the trouble of having the actual surgery, why not remove the tumor?

don't you normally get to keep the tumor/etc. that they extract from you? (in a plastic bag/etc.)

Uh I believe they usually capture the whole surgery in video and photograph the tumour for evidence purposes everytime they perform such large scale surgery, or do they not?

I believe it's a very complicated surgery. The surgeon is probably lacking in confidence that his patient will survive.

Or maybe he's just incompetent and thought that he'd actually removed the tumor completely. I mean, he is a doctor.

Then it wouldnt have been a lie.

If you're quoting the title of the article, then I don't think you should be making that assumption off of a journalist's inadequate literary skills. It's placed in quotes because it's an assumption they've made, and apparently it's alright to write articles based around opinions and beliefs instead of fact these days.

Well the article says he "removed four fragments". That implies he knew the surgery wasn't complete.

ALL OF YOU BE QUIET!

Now, that's over... He thought he had removed the tumor by removing the four segments, four pieces, more often than not, makes a whole. She had a second and third MRI scan, and the Doctor noticed that there was a tumor there. That's when the Doc lied to the patient, not before nor after. He also thought that by removing the four segments, he had removed the tumor.

It all is very clear if you'll actually read it.

But he still lied to her. So, how can you trust a doctor/ surgeon again "?

What, are you saying that she can't trust the new doctors telling her it's still there? I'm pretty sure they can just show her the MRIs and point it out to her to give her a good idea for her ownself.

Doesn't matter he removed the segments, He still lied to her "that he removed the tumor."
So, how can she trust him again after that. eh?

He allegedly operated on the woman at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in September 2008, where instead of removing the legion, which at the time of discovery in 2007 was an inch in diameter, he removed four fragments.

Seriously, if the four fragments are not the tumour then what bloody 4 fragments could he have possibly removed... from the brain?!
Maybe that's why the patient become brainless enough to sue the doctor afterwards.

No, wait. Am I supporting the doctor now?
