Logo feedback

So, to join the logo trend, I created a logo for a framework I want to implement and I'd like to see what you guys think about it.

Old version:

Updated logo:

Updated alternate:

The second version is for viewing on a different background, it does not represent a part of the actual logo.

The idea behind it: I am creating a WebGL framework for my bachelor diploma and I chose to name it Masala. Masala, among others, is a type of tea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masala_chai) and as you can see, the primary element is a teapot. Both are direct references to the graphics field, in which a teapot is kind of a Hello World (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_teapot). Also, the language it will be written in is JavaScript, which is a coffee reference, and I have tea references, which kind of go along, so that's a loose reference as well.

What do you think (about the logo, name and story)?

EDIT: Just thought about the name and realized that GL is graphics language and Masala is not a graphic language. So that's going to disappear.

EDIT 2: I updated the text.

It is pretty simple. I mean, its 3 colors and the shape of a teapot.
If you want to keep it simple then I am cool with it. I like simple imagery.
But I, personally, cant give you much more feedback, because there really isnt much actual content in the image.

Maybe give the pot a knob on top.

I tried the knob idea, but I disliked it. Initially it had a lid, but I scraped that too, because it didn't quite fit.

The idea was to keep it simple and minimalistic, because I really like minimal design and this is a logo, it's going to be displayed in a small size most of the time, so details would be lost.

I guess I actually wanted feedback on the idea of the logo and the name, I realize there is not much content to review.

Besides, the teapot is a custom vector, so I'm also asking for opinions on the lines of the teapot itself, on the font choice and the colors too. Those are the components of the logo, mainly.

The teapot is okay, I guess. It sure looks like a teapot.
The idea and concept sound good. It all makes sense and works well together.

Looks really good! I like the name/design-choice as well. My favorite part is the little fade on top.

The only concern is that the teapot/text might be a little small relative to the circle. I think it fits the way it is, but you may want to consider what it'll look like when it is sized down.. unless that isn't an issue--then I have no qualms. :)

It looks very good for me too. Nice and simple. Choice of colours is good too.
But my first impression is cafe-like themed logo. That's the only problem for me, the theme.

Yes, I actually made 2 versions in the end, one like this, the official logo, for when it's displayed big enough and an alternate one where the circle is way smaller.

In fact, I also updated the text size. Take a look at the bottom of the post, I will post the new versions.

I also converted it to Illustrator files, because I could not export them as SVG from Photoshop. Damn, the inner glow effect really takes a lot to compute :O (I'm a newb to Illustrator).

And yes, the small fade is also my favorite part :D.

The coffee-life impression is not an issue, because JavaScript and CoffeeScript (what I use) are both coffee themed, and I wasn't aiming at an exclusive tea theme. So if you interpret it that way, it's still good :D.

Thank you both for the feedback!

Looks good. Colors match well together.

The fade's cool but, hmm, I don't know if it's working for me. That tea leaf/steam fade makes me feel like the rest of it (teapot specifically) should have some similar effect as well. But at the same time, adding in too many fades/effects would take away from the minimalism. So I don't know.

What if there is a slight gradient for the circle (dark outside to light inside)?

It's nice either way, I just need to... think more about this ha. It's 6 AM and I am still awake and I have class soon and a presentation, ugh.

I didn't want to add a gradient to the background because that would make it appear 3D and I wanted the logo to be flat.

As for the fade out, that's steam, so this is why it fades out. And yes, adding other gradients / fade outs would take away from the minimalism.

It seems Just a bit too wide!

The teapot itself, you mean?

The thing is, I used a special grid as guide, the one used in iOS 7 icons, so it has some calculated proportions. It is actually a concentric circle inside the main circle, cut of on top and bottom. It also fits the text quite nicely because of that.

If I make it thinner, I fear I'll ruin the concentric effect. However, I will try slimming it down, to see how it looks.

I personally dont care that much about the width of the pot, but I guess firecat is right there. On second thought it looks a little bit wide to me too.
But maybe this is just because you guys now started talking about it.

Random thought, more contrast between the colors maybe?
Idk, I was just looking at phone icons since you mentioned it being a device icon and one difference I noticed I guess is the steeper contrast in icons to make them "pop".

It's not actually a device icon, I just used the guidelines for one, because I really enjoyed the way the lines flowed in the iOS 7 icon guideline.

I'll also try to make the colors contrast more :D.

I think I like the top one (smaller) better, but it could have the steam stand out slightly more as well..

Is the point of the fade to not be visible when shrunk? I guess I don't really know why dimensions you are imagining but I went pretty small with it, and it wasn't.. there. If you're going for the watermark thing though, nice pot. I like a good pot.

Sorry for not answering lately, I've been super busy. I will work on it again these days and upload a revised version, with all the updates suggested.

As for the steam, it is visible, albeit very hard. However, no matter how visible in color I would make it, with a small size it won't be really visible anyway.

For the moment I don't have some exact sizes in mind, I'll see as I go. The main thing is the teapot anyway, so if that's discernible when the logo is small it's OK.
