id suggest these things for ideas.

one, for those of you using war ETC, even if its fantasy, you could read some of the scholors historical books.wars can be based the same, and theyll still be difrent.

when creating a charecter, you could doo one of the following things.

A: for those of you who play online mmo´s ,take the personality you use online. you could be the annoying new player.

the guy who wants too be your aprentice, etc.

B: take historical figures such as stallin, george washington etc, and fuse there personalitys together too creat a personality. then from that personality, you can form there history based off the choices they would make with that personality.

C: use a img, that you have of yourself in your mind (we all have thse figures, you know the one where you are super powerfull and you save the girl) and mold it too your world. use there personalitys.

remember small things like

the 7 sins. and the quote from one of the for-fathers of the united states said,
"Those who trade there freedoms for safety, disearve niether freedom nor safety". dont remember witch said it.

when making a fantasy novel or sci-fi, remember it should still make sense. even magic makes some sense. when you explain it. make sure its something a human can understand.

and for sci-fi, i think you should remember too use real sciance as a base for your fake ones. and give full explinations on how they work, while making it sound smart.

i dont know that much about making novels, i know what i would do and what i would expect.

Listen to "Jump around" when writing Battles. lol

@ Halahan

Listening to music in general helps you keep a sort of rythm to your sentences. Though I don't really listen to the music, it's just something in the background that my mind acknowledges and then dismisses.

I don't usually listen to music when I write, it destracts me from the plotline, although I can see where that would be useful in putting certain emotions or some such.

I was just saying that cause the high energy of "jump around."

Consistancy to me is an important factor when writing.

Thiers no point in writing desciptivly if it has no consistancy.

You can use constancy as a way to creat or lift tension when certain point in your plot line approach.

If you decribe the genral story with one or two adjectives on average then keep up this constant level of description until you've reached a turing point, plot twist or climax in the story.

At this point increase your amount of discription and shorten your sentences, it creats an accelarted feeling, the paper reads denser as well as faster.

In contrast when a plot twist hits, or falling action is needed, decrease the amount of adjectives or similes/metaphors, whatever your discription type is, while increasing the length of sentences, this reads slower and the few decriptions are paid more attention to.

However, if there is no descriptive consitancy then things may seem slower when you've intended it to be a pulse puding fight scence or an emontional rush.

Just my pointer from writing in my classes.

If I can't think of any actions, I stop, sit back, close my eyes, and literally "daydream" my plot out. This has worked very well for me. Sometimes you will come up with something you will never think of. ;)

Here is some useful advice. (sorry if some of these already came up didn't read though the thread)

Don't force writting. If you force yourself to sit down and write it wont turn out too good.:banghead:

If you are feeling happy, sed, etc... your writting will reflect that.:) :(

Never over do fighting parts. They should be interesting and exciting but dont put too many. I read books for a good story and plot. If im always reading fight scenes then, ill get bord.

Never eat cheese after 5:30 PM - trust me. ;)

Dont just jump in and say "Im going to write an awsome story!" - its not going to happen. you need to think up some plot, you need some characters. Its ok to make things up as you go, but have at least a general out line to fallow.:(

Characters are important! If your character is boring, people wont like them, if there winny, peopel wont like them, if there meen, etc... Protagonists should never be the type you dont like becuase the book is about them! Antagonists work well as a mean type though, not a winny.

discription can be a bad thing! Let the readers mind flow! They want to be able to built the look of the story to there whim, withen some limitations. This doesnt meen you should use adjectives just dont go discribing the shape of the rock or how deep the water is, unless thats a key factor. Dont go on about the trees bark or the russle of animals and birds. Get the picture? :D

Thats all for now.

Don't force writing...
12. When you don't feel like writing, don't. If you force yourself to write, the stuff that comes out won't be as good. (Though sometimes, if you are just lazy, forcing yourself to write can actually get you interested in writing again.)
Got it. :D

Reflecting your mood...
Adding in a sec.

Too much fighting...
Goes with the 'awesome story'.

Cheese...
Of course, everybody knows that. No need to put it on there. :p

'Awesome story'...
6. Take your time to plan out what you write. (Though sometimes, parts just come to you as you write.)
Got it.

Characters...
Sometimes characters are made to be boring, whinny or disliked. :)

Description...
16. (Thanks to Master of ABCs!) Describing is good, but describing too much is bad.
Got it.

Another note that happened to pop into my head;

Though i'm no published writier, I can say one thing that I noticed in a number of stories in this zone.

Characters are meant to act the same in a general situation this way the reader is able to grasp the characters views on things, and identify with the main character.

Though this is good, an occasional change is nessacary to kick in a twist or climax, many characters in theses stories react differently to what is essantialy the same situation as acdressed a page or paragraph before.

In no way does really in effect cause general confusion, but rather it cuts of any chance for the reader to gain idenfication with the main character.

And my reasoning comes from the vantage point of; that in order to fully take in a books eniterty you have to really grasp the characters personalities and then take in the message that the author sends through that character and his/her reaction to the plot line.

Why does there always have to be a message? The teachers always ask, "what is the message in this story?" not all of them do. I write becuase its fun. Of course i will ocationally write becuase of soething that happened but still, they dont always have one.

true but regardless of what the author said, teachers will make up one.

or think there was one.

I would like to see someone write a story without a meaning in it.

I don't necessarily mean intentionally; whether you intend it to be there or not, if it's there, it's there.

you can always make up a meening to a book. for example, in my book arcane corruption - birth of darkness, i had no meening, no morale to it, but from what i have you could say that it tell you should be nice and help the innocent. It is always there unless you are trying your hardest to have no morale.

Teachers do often pull meanings out of stories.

However, whether or not the teacher's meaning was actually intended in the book or not is between you, your teacher, and the author.

But there's a meaning in everystory, though it is usally misinterrpreted.

Exactly. :)

Though, I would like to say that meaning and moral are not necessarily the same thing.

If I had to pick one, I'd say it be (as the title implies :p ) corruption. Think about it - the first half of the story is shown in so many perspectives, with each character having his/her own goals. In general, they each pursue their own goals, whivh tend to be part of a greater purpose. So you could say that its purpose is to show the relationship between individual goals and the "grand scheme", if you will.

On a side note, this is one of my favorite parts about Corruption, and I think you write this well. :p

But yeah, unless an author just writes down random words in a barely coherent manner, or the book is meant for very young children, I think it's pretty hard not to have some sort of meaning.

Just thought I should through this out there...

The titles here...

They are, not good.

Wow, someone that actually cares about titles. Actually the title should be the own author's espression and view point of the story. Also the title tells you what the story is about. You really can't judge a title and say it's good or bad.

Eh, I'd say you can. If I'm writing about a war, and I make up a name that in no way reflects the story, then that can't be a very good title. A title can be bad if it doesn't get the author's point across.
