What do you mean by worth it? Adsense is where you put Google Ads on your site and you get Pay Per Click right? It does not cost you anything to put those ads there so unless you have something else to compare to... its probably worth it for free.

If it is for free, then why not?

I've seen a couple of sites have it, but I forgot which ones. :p

If it is by google, then it is probably worth it since many sites have done well with just google Ads. Adsense might even be better. xD

Those ads wont even pay off unless you have a pretty big community and/or alot of traffic... I think they require 500 clicks before it even starts adding up and is reset by month. Unless you use the other option where you get a small amount from a completed ad (Ex. someone actually trying to get 2 free ipod nanos )

IMO, if your forum only has 300 users or less you wouldn't get too much,If any; probrably only enough to buy a pizza once a month...

I suggest you just avoid ads, you'll just annoy your users and possibly drive them away without any real payoff.

All advertisements are like this though. Its how ads work, they dont drop money into you for having a few people glance at it; people actually have to complete the advert. That is, most require you to sign up and submit a survey or something and they submit the report to google which submits it to your account.

Rad does not know what hes talking about.
I have adsence on my site, and I do good. Granted I have lots of page views, but I do believe you get it PPC ( Pay Per Click ), and MAYBE PPPI ( Pay Per Page Impression ).

If you have a site with lots of traffic, I'd stick them up, they do well.

found that on a site, might give you an idea of how many page impressions to click ratio you might expect

It may have been the Yahoo! ads but I do remember reading the counter only starts after a certain number of clicks. I think it was only to 'activate' the account. It may have not been 500 but a little exaggeration in order to discourage advertisements is okay IMO

:D

He's right. If you don't have around 15k+ impressions with around 800+ clicks, then don't bother. The few cents a month won't be much of a difference, compared to the time it will cost you for placing, coloring, etc. YPN (Yahoo) does offer a higher payout but that is private, on invite/screening.

Still Rad

if you started with
$0.00 and then got $17.20

Thats a profit XD
Not a big profit but still a profit
Because some (or not most) let you have Adsense
So Free Site, with Free Ad program
thats 17.20 dollars for your pocket or site :p

I rest my Case ^^

True, but you could spend money you otherwise don't have to keep an ad-free site.

I guess as long as they aren't annoying, ex full page ads... those ones that pop up and have that fake windows 98 frame etc. Then its acceptable

But of course 'off to the side' ads probrably wont yield nearly as many hits.

I would like to see you have a free site that makes 17.20 in say a week.

@ Rad - Yes, I hate pop-up ads but Googles ads apper at the side or bottom :p

but if you really need money you can open a Paypal account (also free)
and ask for Donations :p

and all you get is this small box to put w/e on the site
paypal_big_en.png

@ oninuva - I may not have owned my site but I have to tell you I have co-owned many failers and have as much experience in internet management then most people here

If you also use Adwords which adversities and ask to be affiliates you may actually get people if it isn't going against a bigger site, or an over used idea

You know what they say? If you are not making at least a hundred bucks a week off of your adsense you are not clicking your ads enough

General chit-chat
Help Users
  • No one is chatting at the moment.
  • Varine Varine:
How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
