Huh, never heard of it...
I'm afraid my favorites may be a little childish, I prefer fantasy novels. :p

My current favorite series is probably Garth Nix's The Old Kingdom Trilogy (one of the more recent things that I've read), though two series that I really liked in the past are The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Bartimaeus Trilogy. Life of Pi and Mystic and Rider (by Sharon Shinn) are some other books that I can recall offhand.

Best book I've read is either Ender's Shadow, Ender's Game (both Orson Scott Card-These two are parrelel novels, same story told in two characters perspective), or The Hobbit (Tolkien ). The Bartimeous trilogy I have read and is good but I wouldn't account it as one of my favorites. The wheel of Time is also good, by Robert Jordan.I'll probably think of some others in good time

For all of the many fans of the Ender series, I would suggest "Speaker for the Dead" as well (the true sequel to "Ender's Game") - in my opinion, this one is the best of the series.

Orson Scott Card really does take the cake for my favorite author, but Garth Nix is also pretty awesome (I loved "Shade's Children" - my favorite of his books). Also, Kurt Vonnegut and J.R.R. Tolkien are both legendary in their own rights.

I'll definitely read that (speaker of the dead) I've actually never read any of Kurt Voggenaut but yes, J.R.R. Tolkien rocks the house.
Oh, and the books are a bit for the younger crowd but they're really great books none the less, The Harry Potter series?

@aquter: Ha ha! Redwall lulz. I really liked that series when I was younger, but the formula gets a bit repetitive after a while. (This is kind of funky actually, I just finished submitting my character for a Redwall RP...)

@Halahan: Harry Potter is a fine series, but I wouldn't go about saying it's my favorite.

One of the amazing things about Harry Potter, in my opinion, is its appeal to all audiences. It's very rare to find a book/series that is loved by people of all ages, and Harry Potter truly is. If nothing else, it deserves respect for that alone.

That said, I'll echo what others have said - it's a great series, but I couldn't call it my favorite.

I would have to say that my favorite book series of all time is the one that was never finished but should have been: Douglas Adams's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy saga. Sadly, it turned out to be only a passably OK movie; too much of the lifeblood of the series is contained solely in Adam's writing style, which is something that can't be conveyed on the big screen.

'tis a pity Adams had a heart attack and never really finished either Mostly Harmless or The Salmon of Doubt. I just recently got and read his last "book" (The Salmon of Doubt), which is actually a collection of his unpublished works pulled off of his computers at the time of his death. Most are short stories/anecdotes and a few interviews, but there is about 1/3 of the 3rd Dirk Gently novel in the end that I rather enjoyed.

All-in-all, he's got to be my favorite author ever.

On the strictly more serious Science-Fiction side of things, Timothy Zahn is high on my list. He writes a lot of the Star Wars Extended Universe stuff (He invented Thrawn, Mara Jade, etc.) but also a few independent novels like The Icarus Hunt.

Favorite Author... R.A. Salvatore. No contest. Bam.

His Legend of Drizzt Series is so good. if you like fantasy, with different races and magic, you would love Drizzt. He is the kind of character that just clicks into your head.

My favorite book would be... Idon't know. All of the drizzt books are awesome.

Over all I would give the Legend of Drizzt a 9.9/9.6 You should definitly read the Crystal Shard or Homeland to see if ya like it.

Okay, don't ask my why this is so, but I really enjoy Terry Goodkind's books. It's odd, really, especially considering how atrocious his grammar is and how much that fact tends to bother me usually, but he can tell a pretty good story. Sometimes. His series, the Sword of Truth, is a fantasy story, and the entire series is filled with all ranges of books from excellent to awful. Still, it's a fun and enjoyable story, and I read his second book, nearly 1000 pages, in only two days because I enjoyed it so much.

But he is not a great writer. It would be pushing it to say that he was a good writer. And his books aren't too overly-fantastic, either. But, despite all this, I think that his books are worth reading to those who enjoy a good fantasy read with a sort of dark and gruesome writing style.

Word.
