Aside from poetry, this is what I'm really good at (i think), it doesn't matter when it's at school or at the mall, essay-writing makes me shine and get really high grades:p

This essay is more on a comparison between a vehicle and a human, and it goes away from the subject further down in the essay, hope you like it!!

Engines of Human Life

Human life is run by many factors, or simply 'engines' of life. These organic engines help us survive yesterday, today and tomorrow. Such a complex organism like us is more likely to depend on a variety of organs to survive, and if we're complex organisms, we are more vulnerable. Consider the fact that a cockroach can survive an ownage dose of radiation while we suffer and die instantly with that amount. But no, you are not supposed to hate yourself with this handicap, nor should you even hate yourself under any circumstance.

We humans are like vehicles, you need to fill in some high-octane gasoline for your car to make it run any further, or else it will starve, and when vehicles starve, they stop, much like we do. If we don't eat an adequate amount of food in a day, then you're pissed off with a growling stomach plus health problems. Food is one of mankind's best friends, aside from dogs, cars or sports. Eat for survival!

The air we breathe is also essential and mandatory. Breathe people, breathe! Our lungs need oxygen, and not only that, holding your breath for excessive amounts of time may lead to a nasty ailment like hypoxia or the like. Inhale w/ your mouth and nose, vice-versa or one of the two:p. This is true because there are alot of circumstances and instances such as when you've got colds, had asthma or some insane kidnapper taped your mouth shut w/ duct tape or the like. This engine is called the lungs, and it's almost similar to the vehicle's exhaust/muffler.

If vehicles need an oil change, then we also need to urinate and bowel frequently. Unlike for vehicles, which only need to change their oil about a month or two, we should do urinating in an interval of 2-5 hours, or just urinate/bowel when you really need to go. These things are entirely different (I meant just changing the oil for cars while we actually excrete the urine:p).

A car that crashed in the guard rail needs a new bumper. This is the same for humans, but unlike for vehicles, which need external factors such as funding and parts to recover and etcetera, humans regenerate and heal over time. When you are injured or wounded or just had a small cut when you accidentally played w/ a knife, then you'll heal in time. But that totally depends on the wound itself.

One more thing, if people can ride into vehicles, then parasites, bacteria, viruses, sperm/egg cells or embryos can ride (or reside) within our body. Just don't strive to acquire parasites inside your body, it sucks and it feels uber sick. Be clean to yourself as much as a Ferrari needs it! You don't want a dirty trash collector, a lunatic or beggar ride in your car unless if you have the heart to help him out.

Oh, and when your car is sick, make some repairs into it or take it into an auto repair shop, just as you buy medicine from a pharmacy or consult a doctor.

Have a nice trip!

I'm not that good at writing as the way I see it (thanks if you say I'm a good writer), so I need constructive comments and criticism for this essay. C&C.

Thanks for reading!

Writing was... meh. You changed registers a few times, and your diction/syntax wasn't very impressive.

Your tone changed a lot, so you might want to work on keeping the paragraphs consistent. Also, you used an emoticon. Other than that, good job.

man Ninva, every comment about authors you ever make mentions Vonnegut, what books has he written? I assume they're pretty good?

Slaughterhouse Five, Cat's Cradle, Piano Player, The Sirens of Titan, Welcome to the Monkey House, and a lot more. But I suggest you read these first. I've come across some pretty boring novels by Kurt Vonnegut.

I couldn't even get halfway through Slaughterhouse Five, I found it fairly boring. Maybe I'll purchase one of his other novels and see how it goes. I have a small volume of Orwell's essays, which I am reading at the moment.

Also does the lack of a books sub-forum puzzle anyone else? A forum for writing but none for reading seems incomplete.

Thanks guys! Well this essay wasn't meant for something else good, but it's simply based on what I've learnt in my science class:p

I'll write up another one soon which might catch the attention of everyday gamers:thup:

Read Kurt Vonnegut, George Orwell, and Mark Twain.

Well these writers were more famous for their novels than their essays. Their essays were masterful too, but maybe reading Locke, Voltaire, or someone more geared towards this type of writing would help with the flow and tone.

Hm, I believe Kurt's use of a never ending flow and Orwell's bold statements and observation can improve his writing incredibly. I also think his ideas somewhat match some of the ideas of Kurt and Orwell. Mark Twain was slapped into there to both fill up space and give him more ideas. I don't really remember reading anything from the writers you have mentioned.

Varine: Stop looking everything up on Wikipedia.

EDIT: How do you know this? I believe Kurt was equally known for his editorials and his novels.

I'm sorry. I didn't realize you posted. Yea, I fell in love with the book Slaughterhouse Five. I read it several times because of the all information inside of it. The first time was rather difficult, I have to admit, because Kurt Vonnegut's writing style is a little difficult to pick up and enjoy. The second time I knew the plot line so I could really dig into the literature. I think it's great, and if you ever do finish it I recommend you to reread it a second time. If you really want a more readable book by Kurt, I suggest you read The Sirens of Titan. It's a science fiction novel, but it's probably one of his best works written. I also enjoyed Cat's Cradle, which should be easier to find and fun to read (even though that book took me a while to read despite its size).

A book forum would help a lot, but from the example of other forums I'm sure a writing forum would be more active.

I don't think you can even equate Vonnegut to Voltaire.. or Locke. Plus all of Vonnegut's writings could be considered satire. Same with Orwell and Twain, really. Twain had the most famous/renowned essays of the people you mentioned, though.

OFF TOPIC: Have you read Venus on the Half-Shell?

Yeah; Animal Farm and 1984. Not many of his essays. I really liked the first two mentioned books though. Animal Farm was for sure satire.

I haven't read Animal Farm, but according to my literature teacher it is not. Orwell was known for his essays.

Well.. is it made to be taken literally? You should read it maybe, as it is about animals.

Yeah his essays are famous too, but for sure not as famous as Voltaire's.

In the 20th century, satire was used by authors such as Aldous Huxley and George Orwell to make serious and even frightening commentaries on the dangers of the sweeping social changes taking place throughout Europe and United States.

Voltaire, pretending to work in Paris as an assistant to a lawyer, spent much of his time writing satirical poetry.
Oh?

Nevertheless, he continued to write, producing essays and historical studies not always noted for their accuracy.
Oh?

Voltaire's wit made him popular among some of the aristocratic families.
Oh?

The most enduring of Voltaire's written works is his novella, Candide, ou l'Optimisme (Candide, or Optimism, 1759), which satirized the philosophy of optimism.
Right.

I'm done. Please don't tell me that my advise is worthless.

I don't think you understand.. First of all, I wasn't calling your advice worthless, as both Twain and Orwell are excellent examples of writing. Even Vonnegut could be called "classic," but Voltaire is.. like. I don't know how to explain it. Without his essays and plays, it's possible that America would still be owned by England. It's because of people like him that give you right to free speech, you might not even be able to say what you are saying without him. I mean no disrespect to Vonnegut, he was a good guy and a humanist, but.. This contest isn't even close. And I believe your comment "right" suggested that Candide was somehow not up to your standards? You can't be serious.

it is considered one of the great achievements of Western literature.

:) Look what I found.

Candide has had a significant influence on modern writers of black humor such as Céline, Joseph Heller, John Barth, Thomas Pynchon, Kurt Vonnegut, and Terry Southern. Its parody and picaresque methods have become favorites of black humorists.[85] Candide also inspired artists and musicians over the centuries.

Anyway, this is all irrelevant to the thread.. I apologize. Good essay, keep reading.
