Here is the way I would do it. Make some invisible platforms (doodad--> bridges + ramps) and raise or lower them to your hearts content to make the unit appear as if he is scaling the cliff more realistically. If you need it only after the bridge or w/e dies then a simple trigger to do so would...

Heres the way I would do it. Simply put some invisible platforms where you want them to walk up. You can raise the platform as well to make it look like they are climbing the cliff. I hope this helps you out a bit.
