I've done simple things, like I played with arduino and things using those through hole breadboards with a tangle of wires and those big LED's you make blinky things with. But I'm trying to do surface mounting so I can try to do actual repairs, and they are fucking tiny. I dropped a resistor on my carpet and that thing is just gone, and I thought I lost another one but it was just stuck under my fingernail. Then I blew a bunch of them away by turning my heat gun air too high without tacking them down first. It's fun, I wish I knew enough about electronics to be able to do something practical though. Maybe I'll buy some broken game consoles and see if I can learn how to fix them.
There is actually big money in repairing game consoles. Many times the broken ones will be sold for pennies on the dollar when they just need minor fixes to them. There is a whole segment of YouTube videos out there about this side hustle
