    As of 2015 ya. Basically everything out here is funny money, tech job salary included. You can find ways to save but it'll never match up to most other US cities. It does present yourself the option to save massively, though ... some coworkers find a way to live in full on ~$1k or so a month...

    Am in Alameda county. This is not surprising. People are going through great lengths to find cheap housing, whether it be living in cramped conditions or dealing with 1.5-2 hour commutes (one way).

    I highly recommend this book as IQ is one of the main discussion points of the book & one of the main characters is essentially chronically depressed but very smart. It's been a good read so far (3/4s through it).

    Setting variables depends on what you're doing ... if you're going to be using it more than once, then yes, set them :) If you only use it once, it might not be worth setting up a variable (unless it's simply for legibility). If you don't use it at all, don't bother :) Cheers!
