How to make the first hero free (like in melee maps?)

Hello all, I'm busy making a modified version of the melee game.

Here's what I have and here's what's going wrong:
I've set up a dialog box which will give person ingame chance to pick a faction then give them basic starter units.

Problem is. Normally, your first hero only costs 5 food. Now for some reason they now cost 425 gold, 100 wood and 5 food like you'd pay for a SECOND hero. My experience with triggers is fairly basic. Anyone have an idea how to fix this?

I've tried to find a topic but I'm left with empty hands...

well there are a many number of ways to do this but i dont kno a lot of them what u could do is make a copy of the first hero and in object editor fine gold and lumber cost and change them to 0 and leave the original copy of the hero as is its a little complicated if u dont know how to navigate through world editor

Hmmm, I think I know what you mean. Make copy of the unit then make it free. But that will make a lot of unnecessary clutter.
I'd have copies of every hero.

Also the unchosen heroes would free to purchase at tier 2 and 3.

I'm more thinking of a trigger, just wish I knew which ones.

Thanks for your quick reply though. Any idea on the trigger?

I suggest making an altar that makes free heroes and after the first hero is trained you replace it with a real altar.

I can compile a trigger for you. Would you like it in GUI or JASS?

i think jass would be ezier for s/he to understand unless you think other wise i mean i understand it :)

That would be mostly appreciated Charapanga. I'm using GUI.

But what I'm more interested in is WHY my problem is happening. I see no reason for it to happen. There are no triggers that make melee maps first hero free. Not under the Melee Map Initilization... Or does "Melee map - Create Starting Units" have something wired into it?

ok um do u have the RoC world editor or the TFT world editor if its RoC it may be a little complicated

The problem might be that if you don't use the melee trigger as there is an option "random hero" that makes the first hero random and free.

Yes, you can place a bump after 24h 'till last post.

Go to gameplay constants and remove the hero from all values(roll to almost bottom of the list), then it will not count to altar, though, it cannot be reszed either.

Within the
Trigger:
  • Melee Game - Create starting units (for all players)

Line of the "Melee Initialization" trigger, there is a part that gives you that free hero at the beginning. However, with a line of Custom Script, you can add this free hero anytime you want.

whichPlayer will need to be replaced. If you don't know what to replace it with, simply post here with who you want the free hero to be given to and someone will know what to change it to.
