Since I nuked my pc and put windows 7 on it. For some reason AVI files do NOT work right, sometimes none at all. Videopad, windows movie maker, etc will crash if you try to upload them, media player won't play them. VLC player plays them just fine. Nothing else on my PC likes them, so when I do gameplay videos I always have to convert to other filetypes, downgrading there quality greatly.

Any ideas?

Is it both the video and audio that is not working? I'm wondering whether it is actually a codec issue. VLC has the codecs built in which would explain why they play fine in VLC. You may want to try downloading a codec pack and seeing if that makes a difference.

They refuse to play, its almost like the filetype itself is corrupted or something. I've tried many other codecs. Nothing likes the AVI type files. Not even movie editors.

Are you sure the above programs accept the filetype?

.avi is a format (basically a container); there are a lot of codecs that use it.
