NEWTON, Mass. — A local family says a language barrier may have resulted in police using a Taser on a woman after she tried to buy too many iPhones at a local mall. Police, however, say the incident isn't that clear cut.

Xiaojie Li, of Newton, said she is embarrassed by Monday's Pheasant Lane Mall in New Hampshire incident.

"So my mom says she don't know why they called the police, because she doesn't understand what they are talking about," her 12-year-old daughter Jiao Jay said.

Jay said her mother bought two iPhones last Friday, and was told that was the limit. When she took video of others she claimed were buying more, the store manager asked her to leave.

The confrontation involving the Taser happened when Li went to the store on Monday to pick up two iPhones she ordered online.

"The management of the store asked us to have her removed. The officer approached her, told her she wasn't welcome in the store, and she refused to leave," Nashua Police Capt. Bruce Hansen said.

People are ridiculous. I feel she probably deserved a few volts.

Oh No, she didn't deserve it!

except she did - the store isn't obligated to sell her the phones (their loss of sales), and she isn't allowed to film within private property, especially after she is asked not to - not only that, it being private property and all, she wasn't supposed to come back to the store - she entered the store illegally, and the police were called to remove her - now because she did not cooperate with the police by leaving the store, the police used a tazer on her - what else were they supposed to do? perhaps they could have avoided the tazer and just over-powered her.. but I don't blame them for using the tazer in order to not make a scene/brawl in the middle of a store

And there are much more effective ways of removing people than tazing them. People can die from them, and they can very easily cause extensive brain damage, it's not an entirely LTL weapon and certainly shouldn't be used as a first choice. Especially when the person can't fucking understand you. One of the times I was tazed I had to go to the hospital for third degree burns.

Hansen said the woman had been resisting arrest for about 15 minutes before a second officer arrived at the scene.

I would say 15+ minutes of effort was put into alternative ways, which ended up not working

Yeah, so? Police also said that Kenneth Waters murdered someone. And what's their definition of resisting arrest? Saying the same thing over and over again in a language she apparently doesn't understand?

now because she did not cooperate with the police by leaving the store, the police used a tazer on her - what else were they supposed to do?
Regardless of her motivation, Even if she did understand. "The police reaction was ridiculous and outrageous!" Seriously, they couldn't even handle a little 44-year old Asian woman, without zapping her?

What's so offensive about it?

how do you know her height, or did you just assume that she is "little"?

corrupt police - you can't assume that all police are corrupt based on the actions of a few - normally a police testimony > that of another in court - I am sure that there were cameras in the apple store to verify that what the police said (resisting arrest) did happen - and even if one does not understand the language, they should still be able to understand if they are not wanted / to go away

They make the same broad assumptions I do about you and me. The only difference is they are allowed to lie to you and me and they are allowed to break the law to force you and me to do something to give them an excuse to arrest or harass us, and we can't do shit about because they are granted special immunities to do shit like that. And if anything there are more corrupt police than good ones. Maybe no to the extent of Nancy Taylor, but most of them still have some level of elitism because of their unfair and typically unneeded abilities to make your life fucking hell. I watched the video just like you, if she was posing ANY kind of physical threat to anyone they would have used the fuck out of that to justify what they did, and they didn't. And why would she fucking know that? She probably had no fucking idea what was happening and thought she could go pick up her phones and then a bunch of cops are. I wouldn't be surprised if she had already paid for them.

Tasing people is pretty effective actually.

Here is the thing. If she did in fact act as the police and apple employees have stated, then she COMPLETELY DESERVED WHAT SHE GOT.

However, if she was unaware and bullied without understanding what was happening, then you and Firecat can run around and yell at police and I'll support you.

Thing is, I believe the story from the police and apple employees. I'm only basing it on the fact that her story is lame and she seems guilty.

Yeah no shit s few thousand volts is effective. Have you EVER been tased? I cam bet, drunk as I am, that if you had the experience with that shit I have, then you disagree on using it against an old Chinese lady that doesn't speak your language. 15 minutes isn't very long. I've been held for crossing the white line while turning longer than that,

Those two big cops couldn't take her... without any violence?
Hmm If they had NO taser, would they have SHOT her instead eh?

She didn't actually attack anyone, She Just "tried to buy more Crap iPhones"
Seriously, making her look like a "hardcore criminal" to the cops is Just completely wrong!

And so if you don't immediately secede to the police's wishes then you're resisting arrest and they should be able to use whatever force necessary to subdue you?

15 minutes =/= immediately, and where did you come up with the "whatever force necessary" and "wishes" - the "wish" was the legal right of the apple store management to refuse entry to an individual on their private property, and the police were upholding the law - what makes you think they "wished" to be there, as opposed to eating donuts ?

I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
