The incident happened on a United Airlines flight.

Tahera Ahmad, a Muslim woman employed as Director of Interfaith Engagement / Associate Chaplain at Northwestern University in Chicago, US, claims that last week she was denied an unopened can of soda while on a United Airlines flight on the grounds that she could use it as a weapon.

In a Facebook post, the woman accuses United Airlines of blatant discrimination as she insists that she alone was told unopened beverage cans posed a threat and so could not be offered to passengers.

A man sitting next to her, however, was brought an unopened can of beer. When Tahera Ahmad asked how come she couldn't get an unopened can of soda, the flight attended allegedly served her the explanation about how they couldn't give people anything that might be used as a weapon.

“She said, ‘We are unauthorized to give unopened cans to people because they may use it as a WEAPON on the plane.’ So I told her that she was clearly discriminating against me because she gave the man next to me an unopened can of beer.

“She looked at his can, quickly grabbed it and opened it and said, ‘It's so you don't use it as a weapon,’” Tahera Ahmad wrote in her Facebook post accusing Chicago-based United Airlines of discrimination.

As for the other passengers' take on the entire affair, the Muslim woman says that the majority remained seated and pretended not to notice what was happening. One man did turn to her, but it was only to tell her to quit whining, drink whatever the airline had given her and shut up.

Blatant prejudice is blatant. Clearly that man should have used his can of beer as a weapon, and I am disappointed his prejudices for the other passengers caused him to not do so. As this women obviously knew how to do. The flight attendant just doesn't know how to give good reason for war.

I'm glad someone had the candor to tell her to quit whining.

She should blame her people and their archaic ways for discrimination.
Exactly, that's the same thing I always tell to my niggers. Don't blame me that you're a nigger slave, it's your because of your parents! Kinda obvious you might think, but then again, it's just niggers.

Or recently we had a new guy moving into the block. Seemed like a nice guy at first, too - very polite and all.

But then he came to last summer's street festival in shirt with some video game reference on it, and I immediately told my underage daughter to go home. When she asked me why, I told her it's because he might rape her. Then he said he'd never do such a thing. I'm glad another neighbor came by and told him to quit whining: "you video gamer, you need to shut the F*** up". When the gamer boy replied "WHAT?", my neighbor had the candor to say "Yes you know you would RAPE her, so shut the F*** up". I'm glad that there's still people saying what everyone is afraid to say, and call the things by their names! None of this politically correct nonsense.

BTW, there are two versions of the story circulating. One where the incident in question was an unopened can of the white guy next to her, which could have been a simple mistake. Sure there would have been better ways to handle it, like opening the can in front of her. Then when she saw an act of discrimination in it (which it didn't have to be), she started making a fuzz and the other passenger told her to quit whining about it since there was nothing there.

In the second story, for example published by the guardian, has the guy shutting her up accuse her of wanting to use it as a weapon since she's a muslim. I guess this is what's really sparking the outrage, and has been nonchalantly dropped in the above version of the story.

I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
