Marvel vs. DC: A Winner is Chosen
It was the battle of battles. So who won?

Last month, IGN readers finally undertook an unprecedented mission. It was left in their hands to decide the one question that comic book fans have debated for decades: Marvel or DC?

It ends here...

--- --- ---

Read the article first...
Hmmm... I personally am a DC fan, but Marvel is just much bigger.
But I like Marvel, too. Although people seriously do judge Superman badly, ha.

Still, both are great.

IGN is also starting a Star Wars vs. Marvel one, which I find stupid, but yeah it's just for fun. Though I can't decide. Like the first one, Darth Maul/Wolverine brings the question of can a lightsaber cut through adamantium? Who knows?

I'm not surprised by the results, I'll explain in a bit. First, I'm a huge DC fanboy, great line up of heroes and villains and they also have great comic events (Blackest Night, Flashpoint, Kingdom Come, etc.). With that said I can see how Marvel would win, they've managed to pull off the live action movies remarkably well, something DC hasn't quite grasped. The Marvel characters transfer into live action better than most of DCs. If this was a debate amongst comic books as opposed to broad over view, then I'm sure DC would have won.

I think marvel comics translate better to live-action just because when people go to see a super-hero movie, they want a super hero, someone that will just blow their minds with all of the superness. Batman, Superman, and Wonderwoman, are all super heroes but if you bring it down to whos the most flashy on the big screen, they get outplayed by people like ironman, wolverine, and hulk. Its that supernatural feel people are looking for imo

in terms of heroes and popularity, marvel takes it hands down. however if it was a *real* battle with fighting DC would win considering that superman is more or less immortal, super strong, super fast AND has powers of flight laser vision super breath, etc. the only superhero i can think of that is more god-like than superman is dr. manhattan

Watchmen was bought up by DC, so they'd have Superman and Dr. Manhattan. On a side note, Batman has defeated Superman on multiple occasions, and the Flash can win a race against Superman any day. Superman use to be considered all powerful, not he's merely a jack of all trades. He could still whoop on anyone though.

If you look at there names you already get a basic understanding of what to expect. DC, Detective Comics, has a string of mysteries leading up to the revelation, usually there's subtle clues that might allow a clever reader to figure out what's going on. DC tries to stay in the science fiction side of it all(i.e. Space travel, aliens, technology, etc.), not to say they don't border into mysticism. DC characters also tend to be more human, they have flaws but they're people doing the best they can in the world they live in. Marvel is more black n white, you have your good guys and you have your bad guys. They have more genetics modified super heroes, people that were once human but have elevated themselves to super-human status. Each page is action; Bam!, boom! Ka-pow! A Marvel live action movie is much easier to pull off because everyone likes a good guy who beats the snot out of bad guys. Once DC gets their characters translated onto the big screen better you can expect a lot to come from them.

Also, DC cartoons > Marvel cartoons.

Only problem is, DC's films in the past have been kinda fail, except for the few obvious ones.
Marvel's organized with their Avengers film setup, but there is yet to be anything from DC. As far as I know, the only two upcoming DC films are Nolan's Dark Knight Rises and Man Of Steel.
Although it's rumored that Warner Bro. is starting a Justice League film for 2013. But it wouldn't have Christian Bale as Batman, so I would be sad about that.

Christian Bale makes a good Dark Knight, although his voice gets kind of annoying (and over done). Batman in the Justice League wasn't nearly as grim, he was more skeptical and he seemed to be balanced out by those around him. But yea, DC live action films have been Fail-tastic of late.

I have just always preferred Marvel. It is not a hate DC thing it is just for some reason I always wanted the Marvel comics and the DC not so much. When I was growing up and doing comics DC was not so much gritty... that started happening in your generation.

Still Marvel but I think with the deluge of new Marvel stuff since Disney bought them - it has decreased quality but the variety has increased. It is give and take, I believe.

How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
