Items that increase attack dice?

I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to make an item that increases the holder's number of attack dice (instead of increasing the base.) Anyone know how to do it?

Uh maybe not really belongs here, but can you tell me what the dice thing is? I've seen it and I know units has it, but what does it do?

The attack dice is what generates a somewhat random base damage to each unit. The higher the "number of sides per dice" is, the more random the damage will get. Let's say someone has got 10 base damage, 1 dice and 10 sides per dice, then that unit's damage would be 11-20 or something similar to that.

Its like this: Take base damage,

Roll <Attack number of dice> Dice, that have <Attack number of sides per die> sides, add up the numbers and add them to base damage.

So If I have base damage 10 and Attack number of dice is 2 and sides per die is 6, then I my damage range would be from 12-24.

I don't think you can change this via triggers or anything though. You could always just make it so that when you attack, you deal "random number between X and Y" bonus damage.

Is there any way to associate an upgrade with an item carried?

Yes, but you probably don't want to.
This is because you can't undo upgrades....

The best way, if you want to control dice for units is to set the prefered units dice to 0 and make a trigger-system yourself as said by larcenist:

A con of this is that it wont show up in the regular damage show on the unit.

You also can't attack another unit if the dice for your unit is set to 0. And setting up triggers for all the possible combinations of items would probably take me a lifetime.

It just seems to me that there ought to be a way to level a character up yet still make it so he doesn't automatically do his base in damage with every single strike. It seems that even a level 45 hero might sometimes be blocked on a swing or miss completely, or deal such a bad blow that he only gives 1 or 2 damage for that particular swing...

you can trigger a critical strike if you have a suitable damage detection system :) it wont alter the base damage/damage dice, but itll be alot easier than doing stuff for every item?

i have a simple GUI damage detection system which differentiates between physical and spell damage, so critical strike based on phys damage should be easy
