I don't think that surface area actually matters much since it works by compressing the piezoelectric material instead of capturing kinetic energy. The force per area of material is still the same so you can make the stalks taller instead of wider, making them more aesthetic but still energy...

You *can* still snipe marines and banelings, ghosts just aren't good against every zerg unit anymore. This probably sounds really whiny, but there was nothing more ridiculous than watching 15 ghosts shred anything the zerg tries to throw at them.
