The idea is to not get seen. You dont run around with the knive clearly visible. If you saw someone with a handgun moving towards you, you would run away also.
You cant just draw a gun and shoot. That only works in movies.

Oh, yes you can. It has been gun shooting nearby my home some years ago. It was quite dark outside. But lucky me I didn't hear anything when that happened. Anyway, The neighbor been hit several time but he did survived. Well, It was Just a jealousy maniac with a gun. It was Just shoot to kill. And it wasn't a movie.
