Yays! :D
Here's a thread to commemorate it.

It's a shame that not many people care. I bet most of them who notice will know from Google's anniversary logo.

And yea, there's some shady things around the Soviet space program, like the possibility that Gagarin wasn't their first attempt. But still :)

Space: the final frontier... it will be a long time before the human race again reaches the kind of rate of scientific advancement we had at the height of the cold war and the space race. Incredible to think that in less than 50 years we went from the very first manned flight with the Wright Brother's plane to launching a man into outer space. Since then we've put man on the moon and built a goddamn freaking spacestation.

Thats because there is no motivation, and with no motivation nothing ever gets done. Competition is probably the num. 1 motivator in most people. Without it we become content with what we have and dont really care for moving forward. hopefully with china coming forward as a massive superpower, we can get a cold war style thing going again (without the military threats and nuke threats and whatnot) that will result in more scientific booms.

I think the case is that space exploration is getting commercialized now. And meh, that's not as interesting as Team Communism vs Team Capitalism.

And judging from how incredibly expensive reaching Mars is, I don't think there will be any big leaps in the nearby future.

You know we can control roaches and birds with mountable helmets as if they were RC cars right? You know we can make mechanical animals that are controlled by organic brains right?

I don't see how people think technological advances have halted. I thought the same too, but watch this: http://www.thehelper.net/forums/sho...t-Wolpe-It-s-time-to-question-bio-engineering

Yeah, I know. But... y'know... I'm not really sure what I'm trying to say here, my brain is completely fried. I'll get back to you on that.

The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
