While many students try to go to the beach during their summer vacation, others are going green.

Forty-eight students throughout the Southern Tier were selected for the two-week science workshop called the Go Institute.

Projects will focus on creating a sustainable environment.

Students will get the chance to complete a series of lab experiments.

They will also visit the Broome County landfill to learn about recycling.

"That part of it really excites me that we're getting kids that are this age, that are really thinking about these things," said Union-Endicott high school teacher Doug Hubert. "Changes that they can make in their everyday lifestyle.'

There's also a workshop planned for the area teachers in the fall.

They'll learn how to bring the Go Institute's information to their classrooms.

It's still news whether I was in it or not - it would just be lamer.

It was on News Channel 12 - It was on TV - IT'S NEWS

And it's not summer school in the aspect that only 4/800 kids get in (essay was so f*ckin hard)

When you say summer school, I think of kids who are phailing.

I saw something about a vacuum cleaner on the news before, which wasn't really news (it was just a vacuum cleaner...) So, it doesn't necessarily make it news :p

only 4/800 kids get in

WTF? Can't be very good if there's only 4 people (well, can't be very fun, unless they had no intention of making it fun :p)

Isn't that what science at school is for?

Oh, how lovely, going to a landfill. Wouldn't it make more sense to go to a recycling plant to learn about recycling, and go to the landfill to learn about dumping waste?

Sorry, was referencing my school, 47 kids total - even though the news said 48 -.- (dang news reporters, always getting things wrong). Would be more like 47/8000 if I included all the schools.

As a microbiologist I approve of any news even slightly related to my field.

Those goggles make you all look lame though. You need tight ones or safety spectacles.
