Hello,

I noticed that it is coming up on a decade since I've signed up for thehelper.net. Sheesh!

I was going to do this post on the day of, but I realized that I will be out of town that day. In fact, I'm going up to Boston for Pax East this upcoming weekend (first time!), so if anyone is going to be around, feel free to message me.

I just wanted to take a little time to thank everyone, as this website has definitely helped shape me. From the 14 y/o kid being curious about modding Starcraft and eventually Warcraft III, to the near-25 y/o here today, now a software engineer that's continuously striving to find new solutions for his company's problems, thehelper.net has helped ingrained into me two fundamental traits in my personality: the need to learn, and the urge to help. These traits have helped me stand out to others; to friends, to peers, to professors, to colleagues, to employers ... these traits define me now ... people from all parts of my life now know me as a Helper :)

Thanks, everyone at TH, for making a positive impact on my life.

Me and another THer will be around the area and at PAX this weekend. Well, unfortunately I myself can't actually attend this year, but another THer will be there and I'll be hanging around with them a bit.

What day you going/arriving?

My brother n I are going up Thursday night, and we're attending PAX on Friday and Sunday. Saturday we're taking the day to explore Boston (Fenway Park? Sam Adams brewery? Dunno, we'll figure it out). The drive should be fun, I'm coming up from Baltimore, stopping by his place outside NYC to pick him up, and continuing the trek. I intend to still put in some hours at work on Thursday :S

Wish I could attend PAX this year but yeah, will be working most of today, and leaving Boston tomorrow. A TH meetup would be cool if I had the time ha.

Not with this account. Before this one I had an other account of which I forgot the login information. I really only used it to ask my nooby wc3 editor questions back then.

His new alter ego is Firecat.

All I wanted was a Gigantic alpha key but they didn't give any out at PAX...
That was one of the long lines I was willing to wait for n try, because after watching some people play it I thought to myself "geez, I could probably wreck a lot of these people with an assassin class character!" And I did.

And yeah, it's a bummer you don't get immediate alpha/beta/whatever access ... I did sign up to be in the beta though & got a free t-shirt. The game itself was pretty fun, didn't quite get the ending and how to make the enemy ancient creature or w/e vulnerable. Other than that it seemed pretty straightforward.

I JUST SAW THIS THREAD.

I was at PAX, as an exhibitor for MassDigi...

Well, I missed the chance to speak to you in person, as well as anyone else who been there so...

I COULD'VE GIVEN YOU ALL FREE KEYS, you know?? I had so many... And I gave them away to my classmates.

Aw, bummer! It would have been a pleasure to meet you!

How was it working an exhibit? I was considering trying to do that for next year ... did you have to work at it all 3 days, or did you work it just for one day, but then get a 3-day entry? I know that some ask you to work all 3 days and some only ask you to work 1 day ... depends on the company I suppose.

I worked for 3 whole days, miserable timing on Sunday due to Daylight Saving, and I got the Exhibitor pass. Before, I was not a part of any booth, and was just a visitor. I paid for $50 Friday 1-day pass. It was not until I asked to volunteer for a booth, and climbed from 1-day to 3-day to Exhibitor. In the end, I saved $259 on an Exhibitor pass, thanks to volunteering. (Exhibitor pass costs $299 + tax, as I heard.)

It's frantic, but in a sense that we're at least showing a game to someone each 10 minutes gone by. For us, we were showing my classmate's game to a queue lining up for a test-run on cooperative VR game the other MassDigi participants did.

During our breaks, I get to spend my free time at panels and hearing how things go. I also get to taste what Outtakes are like, which are highly expensive and shitty. I had to walk 2 miles away from the expo to a nearby Subway (if you go down the A Street), just to satisfy the hunger. And there's free hot pizzas (hotcakes? Forgot...) outside the expo.

Took a few selfies with other cosplayers. And got a few great games from other developers near the end of the show.

Help Users
  • No one is chatting at the moment.
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
