I just bought this player off of eBay.

So, I was wondering if my new Samsung DVD-N501 will play DVD-Rs?

I don't know if we've ever confirmed it one way or another. I seem to remember someone tried and it didn't work, but that was a while ago.

I will be a very sad Zadoc if it can't play a simple DVD-R.

It'll play DVD-Rs fine but if I remember correctly, it doesn't like DVD+R discs unless they're bitset to DVD-ROM.

I can't remember if the N501 likes rewritables or not. (When I got my first DVD burner I went through everything I owned to see what worked and didn't but that's been a long time..)
