A question about Forces and large FFA games.

Heya.
I want to make a FFA map with 7 - 12 players all on different teams. RoC standard editor only lets me create 6 Forces, which is inadequet for what I want - and if I leave them all under one team it never ends up as every man for themself.

-So how can I make A) Each b.net player CHOOSE their team during startup? or more importantly, B) How do I assign each player to be their own time via the colour they choose?

Maybe this has been explaining somewhere or other. But I've searched through a ton of tutorials and the like for the last few hours and found naught. Perhaps it is so simple no one even thought of explaining it.
Help's appreciated.

well you can't actually MAKE a player choose their team, it is totally up to the player to decide what team they want to be in. In the game waiting room, all they do is click on the team name (yellow text) and they get put into that team.

hmm, after thinking this over a bit, it is possible to organise the teams to be completely different to what you see in the game waiting room, it can be done with triggers.

Look for the 'player - set alliance' action, and make sure you set the alliance both ways e.g.

make player x an enemy of player y
make player y an enemy of player x

I think this might be what you're after, lemme know if it isn't.

Mmm... not exactly.

Under 'Forces' in 'Scenario Properties' is the only spot I can see to change alliance- and it is relative to Forces. So yes, I can make Force 1 ally with force 3, but not force 2 (etc) -- But the problem is I cannot have more than six serperate Forces (Thus, a 6 player FFA isn't hard at all, but more players cannot be solved from this spot, it seems.)

How could it be done with Triggers?

Also: I took 'Ally Priorities' all down to 'None'. Maybe that'll work, but probably not.

Ok, now I noticed something.

Every map I save now is becoming a W3X instead of a W3M (meaning they are becoming Warcraft 3 Expansion saved maps, not Warcraft 3 maps)

When in Warcraft, my computer cannot find W3X files. So in Custom games, no w3x appear, nor in created online games.

I bet you I've been fixing my problem, but replaying the old W3M map (since it's the only one my CPU finds) and it's obviously flawed in the manner of teams. I can't edit it either, because when I try to it becomes a w3x.

I don't even HAVE Frozen Throne- is that the 'expansion' it's talking about? Or is it a patch of some kind.

How can I get my Warcraft game to read w3x's like it did w3m's?

Yes its the add on package, sells for about 40 bucks, or both games for 50.

The editor is probobly updated, allowing you to save w3x files, but NOT view them in the game. Save your map as a w3x file. If it needs the expansion, it will tell you why under map properties.

You'll have to change any expansion things you used, and its not that specific so you'll need to search for it.

I don't get this.

I open the w3m, and NOT change ANYTHING- it still resaves as a W3X, as if it's setup to change it to that no matter what's on the map. Otherwise, I'd have had to put a 'tFT' unit (etc) on my map BEFORE the patch (whichever one messed my editor so) and this is ludicrous because it used to work and I've never gotten FT.

I cannot find the 'Map Properties' file either. Nothing by that specific name. There's a bunch of similar options under 'Scenario' but no specific 'Map Properties'.

Is there any way to make my editor a non"upgraded" one so I can make and run W3M's again?

Isn't anyone else having this problem who hasn't bought FT? Shouldn't all b.net using CPUs that haven't gotten FT be afflicted with the same problem?

I'm so disilliusioned...

I'm so disilliusioned...

And you have every right to be, blizzard seriously f*cked up with this one. There are (or were) quite a few units in the editor marked as TFT units, which resulted in a RoC editor saving the map as w3x even if you did nothing to the map.

This problem is never easy to solve unfortunately....

To start off, open the map up in the editor, and go to scenario -> map description, and look at the bottom of that window that pops up. That's where it tells you whether the expansion is required for the map or not, and if it is, it will tell you why it is required.

edit: here's a tip, until we can sort the problem out, after you save the map, go into windows explorer and change the .w3x file extension to .w3m, and it should work perfectly fine as a RoC map.

Thanks Darg, but it still doesn't work.

I renamed the file, and it became a W3M, with the icon and everything, but then when I went to load it in a custom game - as if it knew I was cheating or something- that particular map never loaded to become an option.

Under Map Description in Scenario I don't find any lists of what would make something an FT map. It says something like 'Editor Type' 17 and 'Data Type' 4356 - But nothing I can edit.

I was just getting back into map making too. Guh!

Rafien.

Also:

Shouldn't, like, a TON of people be having this problem if it is as simple as it seems?

It's not like my map has complex units.
Most of them are editted, but It's an imitation melee so everyone starts with a townhall and peons. Throw in a bunch of creeps and what is there that's FT?!?!

Rafien.

probably not, most serious mapmakers were too lured in by the greatly enhanced editor in TFT to waste any more time with the RoC editor. And its doubtful that anyone could go back to RoC after using the TFT editor, so I imagine its only the minority that is having problems.

Here's how I (sorta) fixed it.

1. My editor does NOT say that in that spot. It's blank.

2. If 'latest patch' is downloaded off b.net, then certainly. I b.net daily. It was a patch I downloaded which CAUSED the problem, as my editor was working before.

What I've done:

Reinstalled Warcraft III. My editor goes back to the original one. I can edit my map to my heart's conent, without worry. Now I've lost a few key features (for instances I can't change a characters voice from it's model, gah!) but it's worth it. What I'll do is this: Copy World Edit and put it in a subdirectory (once my current map is done) then go on b.net and load the latest patch. My map will work, because it'll be a .w3m still, if the patch screws up my WE again- I'll have an extra backup 'original WE' in a subdirectory. Thus, it all works out- besides conveiniance.

Thanks for your help anyway. I'll be back when I mess something else up.

Do you know quickly how to make Priest/Sorc spell upgrades apply? No matter what I seem to do my sorcs and priests have all their spells as soon as their made, upgrades or no.

Rafien.

yowch, I'm guessing you've gone back to the 1.06 RoC patch there. I'll let you know anyway if there's a better way to handle the problem.

strange with the sorc priest thing, I imagined that you couldn't do the research by default. You can use the action 'player - set current research level' and do:

Player - Set the current research level of (Priest Adept Training) to (0) for (Player 1 (Red))

stick it in the melee iniitialization trigger and that should work.

Yeah, not sure on Magic upgrades. But it's probably a silly error by me.

I redownloaded the 1.14 patch, tried to run my map on the upgraded WE and once again it turned it into a W3X and messed it up. My backup copied editor that didn't have the upgrade didn't work, so basically I'm installing everything again.

I'm still missing things in my map that I know are fixed/covered by patches.

1) Is there any way to get No 'the latest patch' but the patch before it? I don't think that particular one had the problem. This would get me most of the improvements I need to complete the map. Then I could start using it on b.net (therefore getting latest patch rendering my editor useless) and just use, not edit it, to my heart's content.

Thanks a ton.

Rafien.

hmm actually you've reminded me, I used to have a tutorial on this forum that let you change between different versions of war3 at the click of a button. I'll try and find it again, I imagine this would help you quite a bit.

FYI, 1.14(b) did NOT do anything to the editor, 1.13(b) was the last patch that modified it in any way.

edit: you can get old patches from the blizzard website.

http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/war3x/patches/PC/

The old patches never downloaded correctly. I think they're meant for people with FT.

Either way, most of my map is fixed now.

And I might buy the Expansion.

this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.

Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.

I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere

Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
