I had an unrelated question and a question to the admins/mods so I'll post them in the same thread. I was just curious but, how did ya'll become admins? Like not just The Helper picking you, but did you make something and he was impressed or one of the other admins/mods were impressed with it and made you a mod/admin or what?

Here are a few questions for you to answer;).

How did you become an admin/mod?

When did you become an admin/mod?

Are any of ya'll close, personal friends with eachother? (like not just over the internet)

Questions to The Helper;)

WHen did you become the first MVP on the Blizzard forums?

How did you become the first MVP on the Blizzard forums?

OK here's my other question. I just got an insane sum of money (the msot to me anyways hehe) and I was wondering, what games should I get lol??? I just got Baldur's Gate II (EXP), and the entire Command & Conquer series for only 20 bucks (surprising, eh?). I've been also thinking about Half-Life 2 but I've been hearing some bad things about it (but the graphics rule) and I'm thinking about Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. I'm a huge fan of first person shooters and RPG games. The only thing that can ruin a first person shooter for me is a classic one that the only thing you do is kill eachother. Doom 3 almost didn't ct it for me, but the insane storyline, graphics, and realism of it made it. SOmething like Quake 3 I don't want, as it's a little to plain. Don't get me wrong, I love Quake 3 but for a totally different reason. SO any suggesions about what's good out there would be great, as this money is burning a whole in my pocket and I need some games to eaty my new computer hehe!

One other thing, for those of you who want an honest opinion on WOW instead of the people who haven't even played it, and say it sucks because they can't get it because of the monthly costs, and the people who say theya re insanely in love with it. To me, it's a VERY fun game, but it does have it's downfalls. Once the new Battlegroudns comes out, it will be alot rmoe fun. If you do get it, don't think your going to be paying for it for the rest of your life, as you will eventually get bored of it. I don't pay the monthly cost as my parents do, but I do know it costs something like 100 a year. YOu get a discount for the mroe months you pay. It is definately something to try out, as it might cost you around 250 bucks in total (for about 2 years, about as long as you'll play it) but it really is a fun game. So my opinion is, it's something to try and see if you like, but not something you'll be playing your whole life.

Also, I got my ass kicked in Baseball the other day in WOrld of Warcraft:(.

I became MVP for the Blizzard forums in like 1998 or something.

How I became MVP was answering every support question asked correctly for an insane amount of time before the Vice President of Blizzard said Hire Him or do something. They tried to hire me but I was making too much money programming business apps at the time so they gave me MVP.

The secret was they had a 2 post limit they enforced by cookies and IP address. I was on dial up and had my Netscape cookie file set to read only so I just needed to hang up and dial in again to do 2 more posts. You would be surprised how well that simple little post restriction worked in keeping people only being able to post 2 times every 2 hours. It never worked stopping me though and they never bothered enforcing the limit on me by deleting my posts because they helped.

Technically I'm an admin although I rarely do anything admin related. I'm a RL friend of The Helper and have been an admin since I registered here a long time ago. I also used to to the hosting for the forums/server at a facility I worked in. I am an admin because of what I know about a broad variety of things and not because of any single event. I'm the person that'd get called if something got broke and no one could fix it.

The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
