A Run Skill

I would like to implement a Run skill in my map.

It will basically do the following:
When the user activates the ability it will start draining mana and multiply his movement speed by three. When the user deactivates the ability it stops draining mana and the movement speed goes back to normal.

How is the best way to implement it? Do I need scripting or modifying MPQ files in order to make it possible?
Please someone give me some light.

You should be able to base it off the Wind Walk (i think thats it, the blademaster skill anyway) Ability.
That ability increases speed, if you remove the invisiblilty part and make the run speed part faster you should be sweet.
Hope that helped.

Thank you for your reply.

How do I remove the invisibility off windwalk? Is there any way I could make such windwalk based ability a switchable ability like demonhunter's flames?

Okay this is what I found:
The Bad News:
I'm unsure of how to disable Invisibility at this point in time.

The Good News:
To change Walk speed:
*Object Editor
*Abilities
*Under: Orc, Hero, Wind Walk
*Scroll down to:
Level 1-Data-Movement Speed Increase (%): 0.10 (Change this to your amount)
Level 2-Data-Movement Speed Increase (%): 0.40 (Change this to your amount)
Level 3-Data-Movement Speed Increase (%): 0.70 (Change this to your amount)

and then lower down...
Level 1-Stats-Mana Cost: 75 (Change this to your amount)
Level 2-Stats-Mana Cost: 75 (Change this to your amount)
Level 3-Stats-Mana Cost: 75 (Change this to your amount)

Well, there's one part answered I'll look into the invisiblity part when i've got more time.
Hope that helped...

Code:
Untitled Trigger 001
    Events
Unit - A unit Begins casting an ability
    Conditions
(Ability being cast) Equal to Increase Speed
    Actions
Unit - Set (Casting unit) movement speed to ((Current movement speed of (Casting unit)) + 15.00)

That help?

Yeah, Windwalk is a red herring here. You want to use immolation or mana shield or something like that, for sure. The triggered way suggested above should work, although a bonus of 15 would be pretty small. The game can handle speeds of up to 500, I believe. Anything over that is capped to 500.

Going back to default speed

Thank you for the answers, they were very helpful.
How about going back to the previous speed after the skill is deactivated?
I mean. Does setting to default speed suffice? Won't it prejudice any other speed increasing items/buffs that the Hero might be benefiting of?

Well I think default speed is the way to go. But if you want to be sure, I suggest you use the unit's custom values and set what was their movement speed to their custom value and then you can set their movement speed equal to custom value when you're done.

You could also save it into an interger, then multiply it by three an apply it to the unit (based off a mana draining base spell like immolation with your art and no damage).

Then, when a unit turned it off, you could simply restore the value (would take two triggers, most likely, however). OR you could replace it with a dummy unit with the exact same values except with a mana DEgen  and then replace it back assuming it survived :P

>The game can handle speeds of up to 500, I believe. Anything over that is capped to 500.

The Cap is 522.

You can fin this skill in the Jurassic Park map...so if you download it, try opening it...but it may be protected...

this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.

One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
  • The Helper The Helper:

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
