The Bay Area is so expensive, earning $117,400 a year qualifies you as "low income" in some counties.

Every year the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development releases "income limits," the minimum income level required to qualify for some affordable housing programs.

To be considered "low income" in San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin counties, a family of four must earn $117,400 a year. "Very low income" is considered $73,300.

The Bay Area figures are the highest in the country and continue to increase year over year. Income limits in some Bay Area cities increased by 10 percent just in the last year.

Am in Alameda county. This is not surprising.

People are going through great lengths to find cheap housing, whether it be living in cramped conditions or dealing with 1.5-2 hour commutes (one way).

Wait, you live in that county? I couldn't imagine how much of living cost is high there.

As of 2015 ya. Basically everything out here is funny money, tech job salary included. You can find ways to save but it'll never match up to most other US cities. It does present yourself the option to save massively, though ... some coworkers find a way to live in full on ~$1k or so a month & they're well into the 6 figure range.

What this surge in prices kills though is the middle class. Jobs like teaching, health services, etc either become inflated as well salary-wise or they're expected to just live with less. And that sucks.

At least when I shop online things FEEL cheaper now, heh.

As for Github, I often frequent there, boasting about my genetic algorithm for tools-assisted speedrunning and such. I'm also pretty active on Discord, with my tag @asperatology.

Yeah, the whole earthquake + air pollution combo made me completely forget about bringing updates. I'll be sure to keep on top of things after all things are less requiring my attentions.

Glad to hear you're okay! I only knew about your Github cuz I tried to follow some of you when I was learning how to program, but didn't understand any of it so kind of quit paying attention to what anyone does on it

Briefly, he'll only be there for the interim. Like a stopgap of sorts, he'll be back home in short time

Broke the nozzle on my 3d printer and I don't have another heater block. So... I guess I'm fucked on that this weekend
  • The Helper The Helper:
that sucks i bet they are expensive
  • Varine Varine:
    Not really
  • Varine Varine:
The entire hot end is like 20 dollars, I just can't get anymore until next week
  • Varine Varine:
I ordered like five blocks for 15 dollars. They're just little aluminum blocks with holes drilled into them
  • Varine Varine:
They are pretty much disposable. I have shitty nozzles though, and I don't think these were designed for how hot I've run them
  • Varine Varine:
I tried to extract it but the thing is pretty stuck. Idk what else I can use this for
  • Varine Varine:
I'll throw it into my scrap stuff box, I'm sure can be used for something
  • Varine Varine:
I have spare parts for like, everything BUT that block lol. Oh well, I'll print this shit next week I guess. Hopefully it fits
