I am aware it's a broad topic.

However, it's also one I can't seem to escape from.

Maybe I'm a nerd or a suffer of paranoia.

But, in the spirit of conversation.

How do you view aliens?

I don't mean to ask you a one dimensional question.

Rather than "Yes aliens are real" or No aliens are fake"

I'm more interested in your rationale in coming to that conclusion.

Why do you think or not think aliens exist/are here?

P.S. Links to pics & vids would rule.

Yeah infinite space with only species on our planet? Impossible. There are probably planets where we cant see, that have other "things" on it.

i saw a bird once:p

lol j/k but i agree with merchris we cant possible be the only living thing in the whole universe, it must be like 358329573075326027352523624624 X 8604376340764376439763476 Planets

and you ask yourself if we are the only living race on that many planets^^? not likely

(PS the numbers were random)

I am an alien.

Well probably, they're discovering more and more exoplanets now. So, sure, don't see a reason why not. If the big bang did happen then it's just a roll of the dice within billions of light years, so the odds are in favor of the want to believe rednecks.

I agree too.
No matter what they look like or where they are, there must be more life-forms in the universe other than humans.

Like we humans.
No matter how unique your friend is, there must be someone who is similar to him, but not the exact same.

I think its highly likely that somewhere out there is life. Perhaps not as advanced as us, maybe more so, but it's impossible to rule anything out without circumstancial evidence.

I'm not saying they do exist, I'm not saying they don't either.

I'm am also curious as to what EatShrooms is getting at.

There are some theories that life on this planet started from an alien inhabited planet. That there was an meteorite that crazed into our Earth which brought the reagents for life and maybe some life with it.

I personally don't see how it matters. If they do exist they are either really far away or so powerful that no matter what we do our attempts to exceed them would be futile. A lose, lose situation.

Universe is infinite, and there is a small chance on every planet life will exist. Do the math.

This was rather simplified. According to some swedish tv show named Boston Tea-Party, told by some physicist, and it seems rather valid too me.

I had a verry wierd :)nuts:) teacher once, he told us the the pyramids was build with zero-point gravity and everyone could be a UFO, he told us he was one..
And i belive there may be life out there.

Edit: He wanted to travel to Greenland to go under the earths surface, he thought it was a lot of magical crystals down there. And the strangest, he believed in it..
He, i know, thinks there is life out there (even on the moon)

Erm...swe_suffer, where do you live? Is that what exist of some of our educators today? wow, that is ridiculous. I have a similar stance as wiseman_2 in that there is the possibility for life to be out there, but that there is as of yet no way to know. Also I would say that given infinity this could increase the chances of other lifeforms being out there, but it is by no means a sure bet that there is. I think few, even those that study this, truly realize how rare life is. I've read a couple books on this topic which illustrate that the set of circumstances and conditions needed to foster life - not just water or carbon based life as is ours, but all types - are insanely rare. The more complex forms of life even rarer. Rare Earth: Why Complex Life Is Uncommon in the Universe by Peter Douglas Ward & Donald Brownlee is a great read if you are seriously wanting to tackle this from a statistical standpoint. It goes into details about the conditions needed for life that I doubt few have ever considered before. It really adds a perspective beyond just thinking that because the universe is so big there has to be life out there. Our understanding of infinity, not being complete as is all of our science, makes this mere speculation.

Wow, I didn't get a chance to say anything and I've created a 2-pager.

Fun.

Anyway, what linear thinking.

Have you considered the possibility of:

Aliens may not be out there

We have explored some crazyily low fraction of the deep sea,

Some large portions of siberia remain unexplored,

and we know nothing of what's underneath us.

They may be here and we don't know of each others existance. :p

I believe there must be something out there, from something microscopic, to something as big as dinosaurs, but really REALLY, far away, probably unreachable.

Also, what if these life forms don't need the same requirements living beings need on Earth? There is "dark energy" that we don't know, that they might use. ( I read somewhere that the science we know, is a very small percentage (Smaller than 10 or 5), compared to the amount of actual "science" there is.

here is what I figure
In this galaxy we are the only really intelligent beings, there is other life that is more 'primative', like monkeys
In the nearby galaxies there are more intelligent beings, some that are slowly killing themselves by not realising what something does, some that are super intelligent and have flying saucers that can abduct people.
And there is the odd galaxy where there is no life whatsoever.

  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.

  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
