As Apple gaps open by another 1% at $558, it stands less than $14bn (in market cap) away from being larger than the entire US retail sector. The good news: it still has a ways to go before eclipsing the retail and the semi sectors combined.

The american is becoming frugal and seeing the value in the mid-range. Pay $2k for a good solid-built laptop that will last you 4 years with almost guaranteed satisfaction. $650 for a phone you'll be paying at least $30/month for anyway. You lose more money, more time, and more health by inconveniencing yourself and buying in the low range.

The days of buying crap from Wal-mart are coming to an end. People will pay more, buy less, and get more out of it.
