An old friend of my brother and I is looking to get a computer to edit/create/record/remix his home music (Which he does for half of his living).
I'm kind of lost as to what a good computer for this would be since the majority of my expertise is towards video/data editing and gaming.
I was wondering if anybody here has some suggestions on what some good pieces are to make a computer for this would be, or a company that might premake a computer for it?
All I know is he'll need a really good sound card (like something from M-Audio, but there's so many options), a speedy CPU (like an AMD XP), memory (I was thinking 512MB+), and lots of hard drive space (Like 60GB+).
Cost efficiency IS an issue here, since he doesn't have lots of money to spend (why I'm shying away from P4 CPUs and worried about which sound card is good).
I'll see if I can talk with him tomorrow and ask what exactly he does and doesn't need.
