Battle of the Kingdoms

Players: 6-8
Goal: Overwhelm your opponent's king or hold the most spawn points at the end of 60 minutes.
Current Version: 1.75b (open beta)

Description:A teamplay intensive, quick-paced, two-laned AoS inspired map.

Starting out with a hero, 100g, and a large world to conquer you have plenty of options on how to manage your limited (60 minutes) time. There are 12 spawn points to conquer, 3 optional bosses who hold runes of power, shops at (almost) every spawn point, plenty of mercenaries to choose from, and more upgrades than you'll need.

Spawn Points: Points where an organic boss will be available for conquering. When slain he/she will convert to your Kingdom's banner and spawn troops into their designated lane, essentially bolstering your ranks. These spawn points also have shops which require the boss's allegiance to purchase from. These shops contain healing items, stat increasing items, and quest items. To see the spawns pinged on your minimap, type in -spawns

Quests: There are 2 chains of quests for both sides, and this is represented in the quest log having two columns, and can be pursued simultaneously. Because of your limited available time, quests are a strategic choice, and planning of your moves will help in them being more efficient. The quest messages are currently broken at the moment, so to check the status and next step of a quest refer to your quest log. The log also has concise, descriptive instructions on how to complete the current step. The quests are rarely "out of the way" and usually require spawn points, which you would capture anyways, to purchase the required item.

EXAMPLE: There is a step in one quest where you must purchase mithril from the kobolds to continue construction on your siege golem. To purchase this, you must own their spawn point, which is only beneficial to your cause since it supplies more AI troops to your lane.

The Quests
Upgrading your troops: This quest upgrades your AI controlled footmen that spawn from your base. As they are upgraded, they will visually change to represent their strength. The animation model order they change in is from a peasant, to militia, to footman, to an enlarged footman. By the time they are a super soldier (enlarged footman) they are dealing a significant amount of damage and will push your lanes forward with ease.

The Siege Golem: The siege golem is a mechanical monstrosity. He throws green, powerful lasers form his fist, and has an enormous amount of HP. He is classified as mechanical, so the only way to heal him is through peasants repairing. He is controlled by the AI and make a beeline straight through one lane towards your enemy. Though he is powerful, if left alone he will eventually fall. To gain the most beneficial results from your siege golem, the best course of action is to escort him through the lane to help push it forward.

Optional Bosses and Runes of Power: There are three optional bosses.

The Ancient Ruin Dwellers: North of the forest maze lies the swampy ruins of an ancient city. On the surface it is occupied by Naga, but the back reaches of the ruins seal the city's true lord, eagerly awaiting it's time to unleash the Ancient Rune. If you manage to slice through the naga you can defeat the Ancient Lord's captors, a small group of Dragonkin, and smash open his cell door. If you manage to conquer this foe, you will be granted with the Ancient's Rune of Animation, a reusable item with a short cooldown that casts Animate Dead.

The Sealed Cave of the Forgotten Ones: In the center of the southwestern swamp sits a desolate, sealed, and forgotten cave. When you break the stone door, the mouth of the cave will beckon your troops inside. Don't be fooled by this seemingly abandoned, mushroom filled hovel, though. If you rush in your whole army will become Akama and the forgotten ones' dinner. The recommended course of action is to lure them outside the cave where you have more fighting room. If you manage to defeat Akama, you will be awarded the Rune of Battle, a reusable, short cooldown item with a strong AoE buff.

The Forest Maze: Separating the two feuding kingdoms is a dark, mysterious, maze with walls of bark. There are two entrances to this maze, a north and a south, both sides symmetrical, and each with the same exit: The lair of a sealed Pit Lord. Navigating this 'maze' is actually straight forward, but the narrow paths and many enemies will require quick thinking. When you first step into the forest you'll be confronted with some dryads and forest creatures. Soon after that you will be faced against elven guards of the Pit Lord's seal. After making quick work of them you must carve a path through the undead inhabiting the corrupted core of the forest. If you manage to defeat the the final protectors of the seal, you will be faced against one of the largest challenges in the kingdom, defeating Mazzeroth. If you do manage to slay him, not only will you gain A Rune of Infernal power, a reusable item with a short cooldown that summons an infernal (with its short cooldown you can have up to 4 at a time), but he will appear outside your opponents base and lay siege to it. If your opponent's manage to defeat him, the land will finally be free of his evil.

Know Your City: Inside your city are a few places of interest.
-The Tavern is where you will choose the hero destined to defend your kingdom.
-The Headquarters is where you will purchase your mercenaries. This will be your first stop out of the tavern.
-The Spring of Life in the corner of your base will offer health and mana regen to the weary Heros of the land.
-The One-Stop-Shop founded next to the spring can supply you with potions and other items.
-The Goblin Laboratory has a free, no-cooldown telescope so you can freely view the land.
-Blacksmiths are available to each player. and offer every upgrade available for your mercenaries.
-The King is the heart of your city, and if slain loses you the game.

The Heroes: Currently there is a limited amount of heroes. This is being addressed and I will try to release a new hero with each major update. The reasoning for the limited heroes and slow addition rate is that one overpowered hero can ruin any game, same with underpowered. Each of the listed heroes currently has default abilities, unless specified.
Max Level: 20
- Paladin
- Warden
- Ranger - Uses Ensnare, Frost arrows, Trueshot Aura, and Moonfire. Her rank 3 ensnare has an AoE effect to it.
- Dark Ranger
- Magician
- Mountain King
- Beast Master
- Pandaren Brewmaster
- Demon Hunter
- Blood Mage - Uses Flamestrike, Banish, Siphon Mana, Summon Infernal. His Banish spell has had a significant increase in mana cost for balancing reasons.
- Warlock - Uses Frost Armor, Frost Nova, Death and Decay, and a customized raise undead. His raise undead skill has a 15% chance to summon an abomination, along with the skeletons per cast. His skeletons also use the blacksmith's upgrades for normal troops.

As I get more time I will post some screenshots and further descriptions of whats available in the map. Its currently in its beta stage, but I believe I have stomped out major bugs and issues. If you do happen to find any bugs, have suggestions, or to give a review on how you feel about the game at this point please feel free to post here or email:

I'm making this game for all of you to enjoy, so I look forward to your input.

It sounds like an ordinary AOS map that has a bunch of extra features that just get in the way. Maybe I'm wrong.

Should give it a shot and find out. Its definitely not for the the solo grinder who likes to just have one hero and kill until the lanes are cleared. It takes a knowledge of the map, tight teamwork, and tactical skill to do well.

I feel the additional features have been implemented well to add in multiple tactical and fun variables into the AoS equation. AoS style maps needed something fresh to break away from the DOTA clones, I feel this is a step in that right direction.

I think a downside to this map might be that new players walk into it thinking it'll be a simple build-your-hero-and-grind type of game. This assumption makes the learning curve a bit steeper for them, but after they've played it once or twice and get accustomed to the layout and content, the game becomes exponentially more fun (when it was already fun to begin with).

If you need any help I can :)

Anyway I have had an Idea like this also, the only difference is that there were no lanes in the middle connection the two cities. It doesn't seem right to have perfect lines that go to 2 Kingdoms at war? Anyway This is defiantly better than Dota in my opinion because it isn't just, "Aw no the assassin got a triple kill, we lose now."

Thanks magnaguard. I'll PM you later tomorrow evening to see what b.net server you frequent and your name so I am able to give you a whisper when I'm hosting it. The next version is almost complete, so I'd say wait a day before hosting it yourself so you have the newest version.

Ok 2 things:
1 - Can you post some of the heroes your using in the map?
2 - Do you have to have a time limit? It's nice to play a game without pressure of timers.

Updated to show the hero selection. Also, the 60 minute time limit proved to be a good way to make sure that games didn't last for long stalemates. Its also balanced for 3v3 or 4v4, so if there is 1 player left vs. 4 (because of drops and disconnects), it would be very difficult to micromanage his troops to conquer the enemies' base. This allows him/them to manage his/their resources in another way: capture and hold spawn points until the timer expires.

If anyone reading this has played WoW before, think Alterac Valley. When it first released games could last literally days, now there's a much more reasonable limit (tickets like in Battlefield). Once you've played a map 30+ times you don't mind if there's a time limit, just as long as you see an ending within a reasonable amount of time. And having tested this map 50+ times and still having fun on it, I give a lot of credit for the replay value to the time limit.
