"BEST" Monitor?

I've been hunting for a new monitor, my 15" IBM is missing the color red and has messed up colors as a result.

So far, the best monitor (in terms of specifications / reviews) that I have found is the Viewsonic P95f+
Its Pro grade, and its 19" Flat CRT.

Alot of reviews said the text was blurry at high resolutions, and that the geometry of the screen isn't perfect, but some other reviews said that most people could fix the problem with monitor calibration software and tweaking the onscreen settings.

Is this probably the best monitor in the 19" range?

can anyone recommend anything better? (19" Flat CRT)

I tend to believe that the Syncmaster series Samsung is an awesome monitor for the price. I have purchased 5 for work and they work great. Cnet has always rated them well.

I have a viewsonic gamer on one PC that I'll swear by, its the best CRT i've ever bought.

I've got a sony SDM-S81 lcd and a dell 19' lcd on the others. I'll never buy CRT again

I'm not sure if they are overpricing LCD monitors here, I'm seeing 17" for about US$700 -ish. I would like a 19" LCD ideally, but if it's gonna be even more expensive than that, I might have to stick to CRT for a bit longer.

Sony cost me 850$ a while back. Now I see them for 500 or so. What's most important to me is the response time. My response is 35. Back in the day, that was fast. I still see blurs when playing SOF2, unreal and some other 3D shooters. The dell blurs a little when you dynamic rotate objects in CAD.

Newer ones are down to 25 response time, for a fair price. I think I should have waited longer on the Sony, 850 is a lotta cash. I still love it though. BLACK, of course, to match the setup

Research the reviews and when you find something worthy, check http://www.pricewatch.com for great internet deals and check on ebay. Ebay has some great deals on flat lcd's, if your willing to deal with its own consequences. There are legitimate sellers on ebay that offer return policies and warrantees though.

The 19 seems to big for games personally. It is harder to see the big picture all at once, you do a lot of looking around. The 18 is perfect, pushed back on the desk a little.

A slow response time will also cause a little bit of blurring & tracers when watching movies. Digital hookup shows better, more vivid colors & quality, but the analog hookup is faster. (The dell has both).

Unfortunately a lot of online sites are "American-ised", and don't really cater to an Australian market (shipping is usually absurd). It is really only feasible for me to purchase stuff from Australian online websites.

I would have imagined you would have liked at least 19" for CAD stuff Ryoko, 21" would be even better for that sort of thing (can probably only get a CRT in that size though).

Yes, LCD is nice and soft on the eyes, definitely agree with that...

Several makers (Samsung, Mitsubishi, Sony) produce 23 inch LCD screens.

However, when I purchased all the new boxes for work, I was working within a budget. They all got a Quadra4 700 XGL video card, which is $700 USD, so we only got 19's

No problems...


Right now I run at 1280x960 at 100hz -- I could go up to 1600x1200 at 85hz but things are hard to read (I never wear my glasses)
