Big Fix

Iv'e read the forum recently looking for answers to solve my probs with bf. BF and Desert Combat ran pathetically even with my more than adequate system specs. I couldn't find out what the hell was going on.... online and single player was laggy as hell and my comp seemed to be having seizures as the program was running. I was having probs just walking around for it seemed like I was skipping instead of running (thought of processor and ram)...and forget flying a plane. It was taking up all the ram so I downloaded FreeRAM XP Pro and it helped a bit, but really no change in tune. I also noticed that the text was screwed up, all choppy and couldn't make out ne thing in the console or names of people. Also, I noticed these light blue speckles all over my monitor, especially on the map load screen (and on some parts of the desktop) After screwing around with a whole bunch of fixes recommended by other posts, I figured I should try uninstalling the vid card drivers for my GeForce4 Ti 4200. (Yes they were the newest drivers available) It worked like a charm. They became faulty I guess, not sure why.

So If someone else is having similar probs, I can only suggest to get rid of ur drivers. I hope it helps people that were as pissed at this thing as I was...

After the fix

Fortunately, it fixed the major problem when I'm walking around but still cant handle crowdes of people (or AI).... There has to be some way to fix this.......

I recommand 1 GB of ram to run battlefield 1942 to solve the lag problem

or

increase the virtual memory to the maximum

1 gig. 4 sticks of pc 2700 crucial <-- a bit of overkill but got 2 sticks for 40 a piece and went for it . loading times are better and tabing out to windows seems more stable.

I ran bf 1942 on a 700mhz processor, 32mb geforce 2 mx 200, 512mb value pc133 ram for about a year with no\little lag in single player. Had to set the graphics, and # of bots down but no problem. Played the game the day before upgrading, no problem. upgraded to a DFI NFII ULTRA AL mainboard, xp2500+ processor, 512mb Corsair ddr2700 ram, same geforce 2 video card and the game skips like mad. The only conclusion I can come to, is that the slow speed of my old components matched the speed of my video card well enough to mask this skipping issue. Now that my system is so much faster, it really bottlenecks at my video card, thus the skipping. Its just weird cause the graphics look kick ass! It seems like the power is there for the game to run exellent, and for all intents and puposes it does, exept for the skipping. guess I'll get a new video card.

i have same problem. after upgrade to epox 8rda3+ mobo with nforce ultra chip my gf2ti started to skip. with via 333 mobo all was fine.

sombody help me!!!

Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
  • The Helper The Helper:
400 users all online all looking at latest content
  • The Helper The Helper:
I wonder how all these bots that sit on the lastest content page get passed anubis or maybe they did not but they are just registering on whos online
  • The Helper The Helper:
showing up on whos online not registration
  • Ghan Ghan:
The first gate is stopping all the bots that don't execute javascript.
  • Ghan Ghan:
That's the main thing with Anubis - no Javascript, no site. Typically you can still get the site to load without Javascript.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I remember the whole javascript thing, question - how many real people disable that?
  • The Helper The Helper:
Hell I guess I could go back on the stats to know that - we probably capture that and we know the before and after
  • Ghan Ghan:
Real users can't really disable Javascript anymore these days.
  • Ghan Ghan:
The internet is broken without it.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Bot readable, not human usable.
  • The Helper The Helper:
    got it
  • The Helper The Helper:
    Happy Thursday!
