OK, here it goes..... 3 weeks ago I dropped my laptop while playing quake III. I cracked the scren in three places. I can no longer see ANYTHING on the screen. It will cost me 1000$ to fix. There is a port on the back to plug in an external monitor. I plugged in a monitor and it started up, i saw windows me start up screen but when it came up to the desktop, the monitor went in like a "stand by" mode where i can no longer see anything. The pc is a Toshiba 3200 series. It has a INVIDIA Geforce 2 8 mb video card. I remember going into display properties and seeing how to change the monitor to external, but I CAN'T SEE!! HELP!!
 
what size monitor is it plugged into?
What resolution were you running the laptop in?
I think you will find that if you plug a monitor in it ahould automatically display on it, my old laptop did, I haven't tried it with the new one.
 
Can you start it up in safe mode? (hold F8 while booting, when you see "Loading Windows ME" or whatever)

it is likely going into standby because it doesn't like the resolution/refresh rate Windows is trying to use -- safe mode will force it to a standard VGA 640x480

It is a 14" screen. no, i havent tried it in safe mode yet, but i think it may just work, because i think it is a software problem. ill try that as soon as i get home, in the mean time, anything else could help. THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLIES!
 
Anyhow, Toshiba 3200, is that a tecra or a satellite pro?

safe mode works on broke

it is a toshiba 3005-s303 satellite, i finially got it to work in safe mode, i just need to know how to get it to work in normal. any suggestions?
 
Idon't know why I asked, my laptop is a satellite pro 4200...

does anyone know how to change change the monitor, I'm stuck with a good laptop, but its not doing me any good.
 
You mean switch out the LCD for another one? That would require taking it into a shop.

noi i mean, plug an external monitor to it, and leave the original alone, its a software problem, i got it to work in safe mode thouhg. the last reply was to "rapmaster" o.0
 
in safe mode, can you find + install the proper drivers for the monitor?

normally you shouldn't have to

try playing with your resolution settings-- you can't do that in safe mode but you can uninstall your current video drivers and force Windows to use the basic VGA drivers in normal mode
 
video driver

removed the monitor and removed the video driver in system-device manager, it booted in normal and had bad graphics, then it said to reboot, so i did, and it now shows 4 desktops....

yeah, then i tried it again, then it was really really, static-y, couldnt see anything.......
anyway, i think i just fixed it, just uninstalling ans installing the monitor and diplaay adapter thanks guys.......but i might have more trouble.....

i had it fixed, it was on 640X480 res and i tried to set it to a higher one, and it want staticky again.
 
if you look around the display settings, can you turn the refresh rate down-- try playing with that

try something like "optimal" and if not, start at 60hz and see if that helps

    I have two salmon, Sockeye and Atlantic. Atlantic is used for the kids salmon and the salmon and beet salad, and can also be added onto any dish or just as a side. Atlantic salmon will almost exclusively ever be FARMED, as it is endangered in the wild, and we ALWAYS cut them to 4 ounces.
