Brood War Battle.net Problems

I have been having a problem with Brood War multiplayer for about a week now . My brood war takes about 45 seconds to pull up the multiplayer screen with the gateways on it after you click the multiplayer and expanison buttons from the main screen. When I try to log on Battle.net it hardly ever passes the "Accessing Account" screen and when it does Brood War will sometimes shut off if I try to play a game. I have tried many things like reinstalling and scanning for viruses, deleteing bnetcache, and I even bought a new battle chest thinking it could have been my CD or CD key. A person suggested that I should Download the 1.09b patch from blizzard, which I did and reinstall the game. This helped a couple of times, but the game is still very slow, and am unable to get on battle.net at many more
times than not. Please respond and help I would appricaite it a lot thank you. HELP ME FIX THIS!!! issed:

Do not buy additional copies of the game.

First off, complete an online virus scan here. I know you mentionned scanning before, but this online scanner is up-to-date.

I scanned

I scanned and all I found was my bnetupdate had a lkovebug4099 virus which it cleaned. I then reinstalled Brood War and aqll that good stuff and it still doesn't work. The scrren to log onto battle.net from still has a long delay on it in between the main screen and I'm still almost never able to log on.

Oh I use Windows 98.

If you are using a burned cd, then here is a wild possible cause of your problem,

Re-do the virus scan.

If that Virus is back again then maybe it is being introduced because it is on one of the "burned" cd's that you are using to install the game.

I had this happen once when someone got a burned cd of Diablo one.

It definitly has nothing to do with the CD because I tried another one for both Brood War and Starcraft and they both do the same problem.

Scan once more to make sure no viruses can be found on your computer. Then, follow these steps :

Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Information - then in that program choose Tools and System File Checker.

I figured out how to get it to work but I still need your help. If I reinstall and then install the patch I have then it will work for as long as the next time the program is open. It is still a little slow and there is still a big delay between the main screen and the miltiplayer screen. It is such a hassel to actually get b.net running. I tired the system thing befor and it didn't help.

I remember these days... I had the exact same problem once. Little did I know, it was caused by a virus all that time. You probably have a CIH based virus. It is hard to remove, and that online virus scan does not seem to be effective. (What do you expect, it's free. It's detection rate is very high though) I would simply reformat, but there are other solutions as well. Here are your options :

Go back to the Online Virus Scan and make sure no viruses are found on your Starcraft installation nor the CD.

If you find a virus on your CD, replace it.

If you find a virus in the directory only, then your computer has a virus on the hard-disk. At this point, you can either reformat or try any of these two programs to remove the virus correctly.

You must run one of these programs in MS-DOS mode since the CIH virus constantly spreads under the windows environment.
That explains why the online virus scan could not remove it correctly.

Ok I downloaded the clean cih virus thingy and I don't really know how this program works. I am not real familiar with DOS, but when it checks my c:\ it has an error and says: sharing violation in drive C ABORT? RETRY? FAIL? like every file.... I am clueless about this program. Do you know what I am talking about? Please reply back thanx nonamerequired

Are you sure you are entering DOS by clicking on

Start
Shut Down
Restart the computer in MS-Dos mode

Then using the program ?
